If you train late in the evening and are trying to pack on muscle I would ABSOLUTLY eat carbs before bedtime. I do this even when cutting if I'm training in the evening. Last week, wven cutting:
Worked out until 20 in the evening, took mashed potatoes at 20.30, then I ate a meal with 70g carbs(22) + 80g protein + 10g fat. Went to sleep 22.30. I did the exact same lst diet and I lost fat like crazy. The carbs will bump your metabolism while asleep aswell. Don't be so affraid of carbs in the evening, just eat slow to medium slow GI carbs, add protein and some psyllium husk and you will be fine.

Could you post some medium to slow Gi carbs sources from food!

Thanks a lot

I just have an Ultra Fuel (100g carbs) with other antioxidants, creatine, glutamine and have a huge liquid post workout meal approx. an hour later.

Whats the deal with you dudes taking whey immediatly post workout? Doesnt that blunt the insulin spike? Should I take a scoop or two of whey with my Ultra Fuel?

This is a good thread but I dont really see it going anywhere. I see a bunch of different ideas but nothing that really looks solid. You guys that are trying to put on lbm and are trying to scimp on the carbs because your scared of getting fat are spinning your wheels, whether you realize it or not. You guys cannot be scared of carbs, even if you do train late at night. I have changed my PW meal several times and my body seems to like oats PW the best while cutting, and now while Im bulking, clean bulking, I have changed it to 10oz white potato, maybe in a few weeks I will begin to incorporate some simple sugars such as dextrose. There is no need to get all worked up about a preworkout meal, I really dont think simple sugars and protein is a smart idea, your body is trying to digest everything, using energy, taking away from the energy you need for a workout, your cutting yourself short, get it.

that depends DC has built some monster on relatively low carbs and super high protein

Dave Polumbo and Bill Kazmier are both freaky massive and both eat relatively low carb diets for bulking.

There has been a great deal written by Dr. Mario DePasqual on carb cycling (days of extremely low carbs followed by days of carb loading) as being more anabolic than a balanced diet.

Let's keep in mind everyone is different. Just like some respond to training differently than others, the same goes for caloric intake/source. It's all about what works for each individual person.

I believe Mav's intentions were just to get some ideas floating around so maybe we could try different things.....because of this thread, I'm going to try white potatoes, oats, and a few other ideas and see what works best FOR ME.....why do we have to have the same thing every f-ing day.....we should all take into consideration the ideas posted and give them a shot....no one was saying one is better than the other. I used to be scared to DEATH of losing my abs, hence I never ate at night....now, I slam before sleeping....p,f, and c.........even if I'm not hungry.

I can see that. Basically sounds to me like you are doing a CKD bbf. Different diets for different peeps, and different goals of different peeps. I guess that you are right machine, there is no 1 answer to this, as everyone is doing different diets, differnt body types, different training goals. Defaitnely interesting to see what others are using though. I didnt think that it would vary that much.

BBF, have you ever done a TKD diet before? I was reading on it the other day and there is actually some kind of formula made where you can caluculate out how many carbs you need post workout based on the intensity and volume of your workout. Pretty interesting. Except I couldnt believe the carb choices, they were like smarties and skittles etc.
