pre and post cardio meals?

reflex

New member
i've gone back and forth with this one for a while, but for those that do cardio first thing in the morning, do you do it on an empty stomach or do you have a protein shake before?

and for post cardio do you have a dextrose/whey shake like post workout shake or do you wait and eat a regular meal later?

any help would be much appreciated

if you ingest food before, it would defeat the purpose of doing AM cardio, for the dietary protein will be used for the energy expenditures

I would suggest waiting 10-30min post-cardio and having a regular meal (NOT dextrose) maybe oatmeal and some chicken

cardio

thanks mr.x, but with AM cardio i sorta feel like im losing muscle and get pretty hungry if i dont have something before i hit the cardio. it just seems like i would lose a lot of muscle by waking up, having a coffee, driving to the gym, cardio and then not having my first meal until like 10-11am?
im not cutting, so would still suggest I do it on an empty stomach?

thanks again

If you feel like you're losing muscle, than you should eat something prior, especially if you don't care about bf loss. I wouldn't venture into saying one meal is better than the next. Something w/ fat might be beneficial.
