Once A Week... why?

Not that I'm against it, I mean my new routine basically works each bodypart once a week like the rest of you guys do... but how come I always hear to train at LEAST 2 times a week for each muscle in order to get any sort of gains, yet we get by with 1? It just confuses me a bit.
 
muscle mags say 2 times week and other idiots who don't have any results to show from it. Pros take so much juice they casn do this and other people don't workout hard can still do this. But if you hit the muscle hard then about once every 4-6 days can this be done. And I am not talking about recovery sets or stretching, this is for optimum size growth, other training styles call for this but even they usually don't require max effort more than once a week
