I'm basically avoiding breads, cereals and refined sugars, cleaning up my diet from shit carbs. Now is fruit that bad? Really, i hear people saying if you're cutting carbs to avoid it, and others saying if you're cutting carbs it's still ok cause it doens't cause that much of an insulin spike. Then some say that bananas are bad cause they aren't metabolised the same way or something. Anyway can someone please SPELL it out for me?

SIDE Question: when avoiding breads and such, is bean flour and rice flour ok? (my girlfriend is now on a gluten free diet)

The whole fruit thing is taken so out of context as is lots of stuff by young bodybuilders these days. If a piece of fruit fits in your calorie requirements, there is no reason you can't have one. Bottom line, if you take in more energy than you exert on a consisitent basis, you will gain weight.

Besides, smart intake fo fruit can take the place of something harmful in your diet - sweets.

Now, that being said, if you are cutting for competition, and at low single digit bodyfats, then of course every calorie is at a premium, then fruit can become less than optimal.

Some fruits may exhibit a more thermal to carbohydrate effect, and if dieting, makes more sense to incorporate in your diet....such as ....

Fruit with an excellent Thermogenic/Carbohydrate Ratio include: Apples, Blueberries, Grapefruit, Peaches, Strawberries vs. Inferior Thermogenic Effect Fruits: Bananas, Dried Fruit, Raisins, etc., Watermelon.

So, in effect, let your diet determine how much and what type of fruit you use. You have to know your calorie limitations, but if you do, you can fit fruit in it if you are smart about it, even on cutting.

Myself, when contest dieting, I still take in up till the last few weeks 1/4 cup of blueberries in my oatmeal.

It depends on your body and how it affects you. I have blood sugar issues and I'm a potential diabetic. I have to take a glucorell to eat an apple. However, I love adding blueberries to my oatmeal (I reintroduced it to my diet because I missed it).

Try adding low GI fruits to your diet.

I don't have the same issues I have when I eat rice flour breads. I would say rice flour bread is better than wheat flour, but that's just me.

This is a good point. My post was geared of course to individuals without such problems.

Fruit has way less fructose than most think, it's a mix of glucose, sucrose and fructose. My wife is type 2, so I know well.

what about oranges no one mentioned weather to stay away from those or not? o ya plums what can we say about the plums?

Stay away from them in what way? As in diabetic?

If you have no health issues to deal with, then any fruit you want can fit in your diet. It comes down to calories, it truly does.

You could for instance eat a McDonalds cheeseburger daily, and if the rest of your macros and calorie intake are ideal(below your maintenance), you could and would still shed fat.

This this is true, the chemicals and shit they put in McDonald's Cheeseburgers are enough to kill a small elephant, you might as well smoke the cheeseburger and get those chemicals into your bloodstream faster . . . haha
