not soog good calories better than none at all...?

i had my nutritionalist check my caloric needs and just to maintain i need around 6,000-7,000 cals a day (which in my opinion and personal expierence is low) to maintain my body weight, thats how fast my metbaolism and how active i am. while on on cycle and trying to bulk i try to take in around 10,000 cals a day. my question is this,
is it better for me to meet the caloric need of 10,000 cals a day by eating a pizza (from a good italian place), not pizza hut or one that is VERY greasy or would it be better to stay at 9,000 by not eating the pizza. i mean i have pounds of boneless skinless chichken breast and a lot of vegetables, but there are some times when i simply do not have time to cook these meals. so.....


what is better to get those extra calories up even though they may not ALL be healthy, or cut my body short and only get 9,000 but they are almost all clean?

i was thinking about it alot and thoset 1,000 cals may not seem like much but over time it adds up, especially when im on my cycle and lifting insane im sure my caloric needs ar even higher and my body is able to use the nutrients much more effectively.

any one have any feelings on it.....?

p.s. not even just a pizza even if its a sub from subway or sometype of fast-food thats not too bad but you still know deep down that they arent completely clean cals.

im not kiddin, i wish i was i seriously need that many calories at least 9,000.

i know that sounds very unbelievable buts its tru, i can eat mcdonalds regularily,train crappy, and still be somewhat vascular and have a 6 pack,
that sounds nice, accept when im trying to bulk cause my body just seems to cut through calories like nothing. i know there arent many people out there that need 10,000 cals a day to gain weight but there have to be some that are around 8-9,000 a day?

after clen and t3 i went from 194 to 185 shredded going from 11% bodyfat to about 7%
im bulking again now so im back to 197 actually up a few pounds
bodyfat is up again but vasularity is still there

been training since i was 15 i usually go 3 days on one off
back,chest,traps,off,arms,legs,delts,off

i sleep alot, around 9 hours everynight and an hour or two nap every day
 
Your 6 feet, weigh 197lbs and you need 10,000 calories to grow? I dont mean any disrespect, but I think you are wrong!!
 
I'm 6 foot 218 lbs., and if I start eating 5000+ calories a day, I turn into a fat blob. Believe me, I've tried it (even while on).

It's not impossible that you might need a lot of calories to gain weight, especially if you're very active. If you have an intense training regimine like what an Olympic athlete might do, or even many profesional athletes I could see how you could easily need 6-7000 cals/day. I need 5k and all I do is sit on my ass all day and go to the gym for like 1hr. 10,000 seems quite high though. What exactly do you do that burns up so many calories??
 
That's crazy. There is no way you need that many calories. That's just insane. I think you need to get yourself a new nutritionalist and also like Radar said get checked for a tapeworm.
 
Not to harp on the 10K cals like everyone else ..but holy crap dude....!! that is a ton.

In any case it takes 1 minute to make a protien shake. The 53g myoplex shakes are approx 300 cals.. add 3 of them to your daily intake... that will give you roughly 900 extra clean cals.
 
I have a similar metabolism and THE ONLY WAY I can get ENOUGH calories is to eat DIRTY :D...NO WAY IN HELL are you going to be able to eat 10k CLEAN calories day after day...Ther's just NO WAY...

But if you are getting as high as 11% bf then I DONT think your metabolism is as fast as you think it is...:o
(or maybe you AARENT eating as many calories as you 'think' you are...)

I go through the same internal debate on almost a daily basis, there is only so much grilled chicken and brown rice that a person can eat. I dont need nearly as many calories as you but still have a tough time forcing down what I do need. I also get really sick of cooking, seems like I'm either preparing food or eating it or cleaning up from both. For me personally, If I'm trying to add weight, especially if I'm using AAS, I go ahead and do what I gotta do to prevent a calorie defficet. All the hard work you do in the kitchen and the gym, and all the money spent on AAS will be wasted if you remain calorie defficent while on cycle, if your trying to bulk. Take the fat now in order to get the muscle, we already suffer enough while cutting, enjoy yourself while you can.

This sounds accurate.
 
if you just eat at subway you would have to eat over 20 12 inch subs
i think maybe you are over estimating the calories in food? to gain one pound of anything (fat/ muscle) you need an extra 3500 calories and i dont recommend gaining that in one day so if you want to gain 15 pounds in a month (which i think is a good goal) you would need 1750 cals a day more than your BMR and what you expell from activity and what not... if you are say 200 pounds you need about 3000 cals a day plus 1750 equals

4750 cals a day

Now this is just a rough estimate off the top of my head, but it is more accurate than 10000 cals a day.
 
Eat protein shakes more then dude, they are extremely easy to prepare, easy to get down and can taste rather nice too.

Pizza sucks, better to eat nothing imo

I have a lawn business and a car detailing biz so i am alaways active and even just my resting metabolism is high, its been that way since i was a little kid.

YOU JUST DESCRIBED MY LIFE IN THAT FIRST SENTENCE! Although I am getting smarter... if you're gonna cook... cook for at least 2 days worth of food.. but the sink always seems to be FULL of empty tupperware and dishes at my house... it's endless! and the whole time i'm thinking to myself that eating this much food has got to be pretty taxing on my digestive system! whatever it takes i guess!

I'm also under the impression that you may be overestimating the amount that you're eating.... taking in 6-7k makes me walk around feeling like on the verge of crapping and puking at the same time! I couldn't even imagine trying to take in another 3-4k of clean foods! If you're taking in 10k, unless you never leave the table, at least 3-4k must be from shakes. Why don't you list out your diet for us to see?

This is usually the case when someone claims to be eating upwards of that many cals, especially when he's supposedly eating clean.

However, to the people telling him how many cals he "should be" eating, remember that everyone has different metabolisms and activity levels. And while I don't believe he needs 10K cals to grow, it's not impossible that he needs more than you might think.
 
I cut on 7000 calories a day, so I don't see the issue here of anyone acting surpised he eats 10,000. I can't believe any of you get anything from your cycle son 5000 or so.

Holy $#@%, BBF back from the dead!

2 things to point out though:

1) You're bigger than a good portion of the guys on here, so it makes sense that your caloric needs are going to be greater.

2) When all's said and done it really comes down to metabolism. Some of us aren't blessed with particularly speedy ones; I'd be surprised if I ever needed to eat more than 5K cals on a bulk, no matter how big I get.

How much are you weighing in at though? and i'm not in any way saying that this isn't the case... but in my experience the number of calories people say they are taking in is more than they actually are if they can't gain weight...

thank you someone out there like me!!! there are those few people out there whose metabolism are really that fast, ill post me diet if you really want, but to bodybyfinaplix- the one know how bad it sucks to have to take in 9-10,000 cals to really grow, do u eat the pizza or sub from subway occasionally to meet your caloric needs?

Yeah, post up your diet.

BBF has posted a sample diet in the past. He eats a TON of fat (like 500-600g/day...good fats though). I'm sure his diet will be drastically different than yours as he's pretty much the only one I've ever seen eat like this. I like it though. I eat higher fat than most people, and I have to keep telling people it's not fat that makes you fat.

fat free yogurt
4 glasses 8 oz glasses of milk


2 penute butter sandwhiches on wheat

protein shake
peanut butter sand. on wheat

dinner-always varies, but it always has 3 blananced carbs,protein, and vegetables
milk

1/2 lb of chicken
strawberries
water


same as first meal


ill throw in protein shakes through out the day whenever im hungy, all i drink is water and milk. 1% milk. also through out the day ill drink a glass of milk, although in summer i try to stick to water cause milk and the warm weather bothers me sometimes.


thats what i eat everyday no matter what but i often add in snacks like a sub from subway, or a few slices of pizza from my fav local italian resturant cause eggs and chicken get boring and i need something that taste good to keepp me sane
 
Surprise, surprise. That's nowhere near 10000 calories.

What the hell are you eating egg WHITES for when you're complaining about not being able to put on mass?

The fact that you call a meal "balanced" when it consists of protein, carbs, and vegetables is part of your problem. FAT is a macronutrient as well. When you're needing to boost cals, extra fat is the easiest way to do it.
 
what i posted was my base, around that i drink a lot of weight gainer protein shakes, and i often have a sub from subway or a few chessburgers.sometimes ill throw peanut butter on my toast. and i often eat yogurts periodically through out the day. my average day is around 9,000 cals although id like to get it up a little higher

i sticck to the white because i dont want to have a heart attack by having my ldl cholesterol raised already by the juice and then furthered by the fact im eating 14 egg yolks a day.

if that thinking is wrong and if i can have a few more yolks a day then let me know cause itd make the eggs taste a lot better. my protein shake has 600 cals so when u drink 4 of those a day thats a signifigant amount of calories as opposed to someone who drinks Optimum nutrtion protein shakes
 
I still doubt that you're eating as much as you think. The fact that you didn't post the calories for each of those meals indicates to me that you don't really know. If I'm wrong, go ahead and correct me, but I still have trouble believing a figure of 9K calories based on the diet above and some 600 calorie shakes.

Dietary cholesterol has negligible effects on blood cholesterol. Believing that eating a lot of egg yolks is going to do much to blood cholesterol levels is a myth that still seems to be fairly prevalent. Saturated and trans-fats will affect blood cholesterol; dietary cholesterol will not, at least not to any appreciable degree.

okay well ill start addin some yolks, but back to my original question, regardless of what ones caloric needs are, would you eat a subway sub to reach your caloric needs for the day or would you just let it go and not meet you needs but have all the cals u ate for the day clean ones
 
He could be....a lot of those wieght gainer shakes are 1000 calories a pop. If he's downing 3 or 4 of those a day, that's 3000-4000 calories right there. God just thinking of doing that gives me a gut ache.
 
You can do a lot worse than Subway. It might be a tougher question if you planned on getting those extra cals from chocolate bars or cake or something, but Subway's definitely a green light if you need the cals.

If you're not meeting your caloric needs you're not going to grow, period. The only thing keeping your diet clean will do in your case is promote better health, but I don't really think that's your goal.

The thing is not one of those meals looks high cal to me. Even at 4000 cals/day from shakes those meals would have to average out to 1000 cals each. You need a LOT of chicken or egg whites to hit 1000 cals, lol.

well said... the effects of dietary chol on blood chol are negligible... and throw some lean ground beef and steak in there for cals! Nothing wrong with a lean burger on a small whole wheat bu while bulking. heck...have two!! LOL

Buddy, You dont need 10,000 calories in a day. NO 190 pounder has EVER had 10,000 calories as their daily food intake....Someone is ON CRACK??? Professional Bodybuilders in OFFSEASON, (for example:http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/other6.htm) Read that link--Haney in OFFSEASON will shoot his calories way up on weekends to as many as 7-10k eating lots of fat!!!!!!! And you claim to eat 10,000k with 9000 being clean and wondering about the final 1000 of pizza???????

Another quick example: a 100g Chicken Breast has 27g of protein and 6g of fat for a total of 171 calories....If you are going to get 10,000 calories eating clean w/ chicken breast,

THEN YOU NEED TO EAT 58.5 CHICKEN BREASTS EVERY DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

agreed....what a joke....unless you are using a jar of peanut butter with each sandwich and a tub of muscle milk with each shake, you got a lonnnnggg way to go to reach 9,000 let alone 10,000............someone who is trying to max out in cals will not be eating egg whites and 98% lean meats....lol
 
Ive done 10k a day but with a shitload of cardio and training 7x a week. Made much better days when I cut cals way back and cut cardio completely out. But hell we all do stupid things sometimes I suppose... Btw for me most of my cals came from shakes and olive oil. Diet was obsessive cumpulsive natzi clean at the time.
 
my brother in law is a true freak, he is 19 years old 6' 4" and 120lbs!
hey joined the navy last year and his recruiter told him he needed to gain some weight first, so they devised a diet of steak potatoes etc.... about 6,000 cals per day w/only certain foods,after two months no training no cardio no activity he LOST weight! apparently he ate like shit prior to diet and had been taking in way more than the 6k so after some thyroid,and cholesterol tests they doubled it!
yes 12,000 cals pd! acomplished with the help of 4 2007 cal weight gainer shakes per day and after another two months he had only gained 10 pounds
hes like a fucking incinerator!
obviously hes not meant to be more than 120lbs?
so its not impossible just few and far between.

my milk has 110 cals in it per 8 oz. i drink at least 12 glasses of milk a day not including protein shakes that right there is thats 1320 cals just from milk
plus at least 3-4 weight gainer shakes a day that at least 1800-2100 cals a day in liquids. thats 3120 just in liquids....
egg whits 17 cals a piece i have about 14-16 a day that 255 cals
chicken breast is 120 cals per 3 oz i eat a lb so thats 640 cals
wheat bread is 90 cals per piece i have 8-10 slices a day that 810 cals
yogurts are 120 cals a piece i usually have about 4-5 thats 540
so far thats an estimated 5365 cals

dinner varies everytime but it is always a balanced meal like pot roast, marinated chicken breast,spinach and brown rice, steak and salad
ill under estimated dinner to 700 cals that takes me to-6065

now throw in the fruit (and i eat a lot of it cause i love fruit)and the peanut butter, that would bring me to around 7,000 cause i use the good tasting higher fat and cals peanut butter, the subway sub or the 2 cheeseburger i had tonight from buger kind those things are a couple hundred a piece so thats another 500 or so. so that takes me to around 7,500. since im bulking ill try to throw in other snack through out the day like some potatoe chips with my sandwhiches or lately iven been adding season potatoes to my eggs for morning and bed time meal that adds another couple hundred. calculating all those in im around 8-9,000 a day. obviously not everyday is the same. when i go out to eat i may have a 1,200-,1500+ meal for dinnner if i go to the outback or eat out at my fav resturants. sometimes i throw in some chocolate syrup to my milk to make it tast a little better.

You said the magic word "pizza".

We have a chain in my area called Papa Romanos. They make a special medium for me that is just great. I eat it on the day I break some rules.

- Very thin crust made from whole grains, baked toasty
- Fresh veggies and chicken
- Great sauce with minimum sugar
- Olive oil
- Light matza cheese

Super good!

As for 10,000 cals ... and weighing under 200 ... Wow! You must be a furnace inside.

I wonder what your blood test readings would reveal, especially thyroid.

i could'nt agree more here bro...there is no way this dude has anywhere near 9grand cals.....5000 would be stretching it to the highest limits

now throw in the fruit (and i eat a lot of it cause i love fruit)and the peanut butter, that would bring me to around 7,000 cause i use the good tasting higher fat and cals peanut butter, the subway sub or the 2 cheeseburger i had tonight from buger kind those things are a couple hundred a piece so thats another 500 or so. so that takes me to around 7,500. since im bulking ill try to throw in other snack through out the day like some potatoe chips with my sandwhiches or lately iven been adding season potatoes to my eggs for morning and bed time meal that adds another couple hundred. calculating all those in im around 8-9,000 a day. obviously not everyday is the same. when i go out to eat i may have a 1,200-,1500+ meal for dinnner if i go to the outback or eat out at my fav resturants. sometimes i throw in some chocolate syrup to my milk to make it tast a little better.



Well, since you DIDNt lay out ANY of these HIGH NUMBERED specifics in your "diet breakdown post" :o, and since my mind reading skills ARENT as quite what they used to be :o, then I had NO IDEA you were eating THAT MUCH...

And even AFTER you said you were I STILL DONT BUY IT...
I just DONT think you are eating NEARLY as much as you "think" you are :o
