I've made it several times on my own. First time I made it I also baked it and came out with the same result--brown fina. I used it anyway and had no problems.
The last few times I've made batches, usually 100ml at a time @ about 100mg per ml; I haven't baked any of them and they've stayed clear and they've worked great. Perhaps I'm taking some unnecessary risk not baking, but this has been my experience and I don't feel like I'm endangering myself in any way.
