my family is in a shit storm (grandpa having health issues)

Tachycardia(high heart rate) can cause hypotension but know that diprovan/propofol is notorious for bottoming out a persons pressure as well. As long as he isn't receiving any IV pressors for his BP I wouldn't be concerned about it. It actually sounds to me like he'll be just fine. I've had a million of these elderly pneumonia vented pts and as long as he doesn't have anything else going on with him should be fine once the antibiotics start to kick in.

Narcotics and drugs are usually not a good combo with regards to mentation. Since they're livers are a bit less productive they have very little 'tolerance' to drugs and it can take much longer for them to clear the system. Diprovan/propofol is a great drug though bc it has one of if not THE shortest half life of any drug available. I've turned if off thousands of times on completely comatose pts and within only 3-5min they will be wide awake. Best drug ever invented...next to pentobarbital and norcuron :)

He wasn't a heavy smoker or have any COPD issues before this did he? ie. Asthma, bronchitis, emphysema....

No...but there is one other consideration regarding his health and part of the big thing I can't post here. I'll k it to you and you can pm me or whatev.
