Morons at the gym (the official thread)...

Instead of being a complete ass you could show him how. Or maybe it's that you yourself have no clue.

Stretching is very important when lifting, I stretch between every set almost all the time, especially when doing an isolation movement.
Before giving me NEG karma and calling me a complete ass, get teh facts straight. I know most of these people, they are I-G-N-O-R-A-N-T and they don't want to listen, the ones that do, I teach. Thank you.

Hmmm I really hope you were not calling me ignorant....
This is a learning board. Maybe you were not aware of the benefits of stretching, and flexibility into a work-out. Here is a 54 page document that will go into much more detail about flexibility and training:

I think most people do not stretch enough and that is why I see so many people from the gym as clients. Heck as long as there are more people out there that don't want to stretch.... I guess I have plenty of job security.
You will notice a huge difference in your recovery time, building strength and muscle, as well as less aches and pain, and the list goes on. If you take anything away from this I hope that you change your mind on stretching... If not I would give you my card and say I'll see you shortly... but then again I don't want to work with people that already know what they need to do and don't.

The only person he has any right calling ignorant is the person he sees when he looks in the mirror.

Good post but unfortunately it was wasted on someone that smply has no clue.

so.. about those morons we see at the gym... :)

most lifters have tight pecs, shoulders, thighs.. stretching them before attempting to place a heavy load on them in a full ROM always made sense to me.

Travis Mash's warmups apparently are more stretching than actual lifting - 4-5 sets and 20 mins of stretches (from someone I know who trained with him)

Back to the morons... it's been a while since I added a story but these 2 morons I came across on friday were just too much.

near the end of my workout Friday these group of "kids", skinny as can be, wearing the muscle shirts to show off their huge 15" arms.

I guess they decid it's chest day (big surprise there) and were going to start off with flat bench dumbbell press.

Moron1: What do you want to use?

Moron2: I like to warm up with 75's

Moron1: (who really didn’t want to use the75's to warm up with but couldn’t back down and look like a pussy) Ya me too.

Moron 2: Grabs the 75's and has the balls to look around the gym and say rather loud so everyone can hear him (and I quote word for word) "Watch me, 75's for warm up".

I wanted to stand up and hit this guy over the head with one of the 75lb dumbbell he was holding.

He then proceeds to do the absolute worst set of 1" motion tricept push and call it a dumbbell press. It was the worst range of motion I've ever seen.

The 2 morons work their way up to the 95's, carrying on the tradition of shitty form and trying to get everyone in the gym to watch them perform this lame circus act.

at least they were amusing.

Well, unfortunately the morons never leave, they just pass on useless info. Best one so far, was watching a personal trainer, teach someone that a "power clean" is an upright row with a curl at the end. I watched them for 3 sets of 10....each time elbows were pulling it up the whole way. I even asked him what he "was trying to do".

Unfortunately, I see that wayyyy too much as well......

Anyway, today.. I was about 1/4 done my workout when I went to my locker to take a gulp of my shake, when this guy, who's locker was next to me mumbled something. I had my headphones on, and wasn't really paying attention. A few seconds later he poked me in the shoulder, so I turned to answer him..

Guy: Yo buddy, what's in the bag? (pointing to the ziplock with my chalk in it)

Me: Oh, that's just chalk. I got sweaty hands.

Guy: Oh yeah, no shit, me too. I saw you walkin into the gym with a chain and a baggie of white rocks and I was like what the fuck.

Me: Yeah, you know..

(The chain he was referring to was what I use for weighted dips.)
But ya know, I usually walk around the gym with a baggie of crack rocks.
