Minimizing muscle loss with drastic cardio increase

Lacrosse season is about to start up, and i know the combo of distance running, sprinting and scrimmaging will make me lose a good amount of fat, muscle and strength, as it has every season. Would taking glutamine before practice help to minimize the amount of muscle and strength I lose? Also should i cut back on lifting, from 5 days a week to maybe 3?

a lot of glutamine before practice and a lot of protein will help out, it will be hard to preserve muscle working out 5 days a week. I recommend 3 days, and make sure you have plenty of rest between practice and lifting so you can get a good workout. You will still lose a lot of muscle but not as much as what would probably happne.

thanks, ive gotten a lot bigger since school started, and dont want to see it all go to hell over the season. I was wondering about lifting because i know a lot of the hockey players workout right after their practice, but ill probly aim to eat after practice then go lift, even if its just M W F

Think about how much abuse your body is going through...

your normal workout, on top of playing a sport and cardio.

also, you gotta figure you don't want to show up to practice with a full stomach, and if the entire practice , stretching, running, playing , scrimmaging, showering, you may be going 4 or 5 hours without eating, and your body is screaming for nutrients.
