meats over shakes

recently it seems that eating most of my meals consisting of mainly chicken breasts and tuna along with amino acid tabs and glutamine in place of extra protein shakes throughout the day are helping me grow a lot more than usual. i still do shakes probaly twice a day (pre and post workout, sometimes upon waking) but it seems meats and solid foods are helping me grow more. why is this?

because your shakes are absorbed quickly..

whole food is always better (except maybe PWO)

Yea food is always better. Shakes such as whey are abosorbed much faster which makes them perfect for pre and post and even during your workout. I read in flex that you should drink a shake during your workout as well. not sure if it is flex just trying to come up with something to write about or what. i am going to try it for 3 wks and see.

i actually do that and feel less depleted

have you gained more mass doing this?

yea but the mass is a direct result of strength increase. by doing what u were saying isnt exactly making me bigger but i feel less depleted and more able to push my muscles past failure in order to grow more. having sugar, protein, and glutamine flowing through me during my workout combined with my preworkout NO energy drink is the greatest feeling. i feel like i can workout forever but i still only stay in there not much longer than an hour 15 min.

Whole foods come along with more other beneficial things that help you grow. The most obvious example that jumps to mind is creatine, which is found in reasonably high quantities in red meats.

Lean beef is a better choice as a protein source than chicken. It has a higher PCDAAS and higher levels of micronutrients, zinc for example.
