Max clean and press

why do such a strict press? I think for football and whatnot, the push press would be much better for explosion as well as working your posterior chain in the pressing motion better than a strict press.

Also, you don't want the press holding you back in your cleans. The clean is a much better exercise than the pressing motion for a young football player.

I have clean a push pressed 275, but it's been awhile. My workout partner has a bet going at his job where he is a personal trainer working with athletes, and the head olympic trainer told him he couldn't clean 400. After the meet, in two weeks I he'll do it. He can deadlift 700, so I think it wouldn't be a problem to clean it as explosive as he is.

I've done 305 on a 10" log...not sure what I could do with a bar...

i also do regular cleans

i got interested in clean and press(with knees locked) because it is a frequent event at many strongman competitions. clean and press has a different feel to it then military press which is why i do both of those.

and BTW, i don't play foot ball so i am not interested in sport specific training, i am just trying to develop brute strength.

i also do push presses sometimes after i am too fatigued to do anymore heavy military presses i do a few push presses with the weight to make sure that my shoulders are completely fatigued

if anyone has any suggestions on how to devolope power in the shoulders i would like to hear them

The Clean and press in most strongman competitions is a push press,or jerk(if its allowed). You might run across a strict press somewhere along the line, but I havent seen one yet.For me,triceps seem to be the bigest part of any type of overhead pressing....french presses and skull crushers seem to work well.Strongman competitor Shawn Smith has done over 500lbs on seated military lockouts, for reps.Im sure those would also be beneficial.
A friend of mine said that his overhead pressing went up the most after he started working hard to up his flat bench press. His best push press around july was about 270(before he worked on gaining strength on bench pressing),2 weeks ago he push pressed 310 for a double.

Chad Smith...placed 6th in the US qualifier for the World's Strongest Man...did a seated overhead press with 405 for 2 reps this past summer:)

Alexeev clean and pressed 521 when his clean and jerk was 523.
He didn't perform a military press, but an olympic press, which included knee kick and layback. It almost looked like a standing bench press. That's why the press was eliminated from competition at the end of 1972. It was too hard to judge. Ken Patera could press 550 from the rack in the same style. Take a look here:
