Last training day before meet

Yesterday, during my kid's birthday party, (you can imagine how happy this made the wife) I slipped into the dungeon to try and find an opener for next Saturday's meet. I think that the recent shirt/board presses, and my re-vamped training regimen have been a rousing success. So you are pretty safe Cubanito.

The (short and sweet) day went as follows:

Bar x 10
Bar x 10
95 x 10
135 x 5
185 x 5
225 x 3
275 x 1
315 x 1
Put loosest shirt on, then:
385 x 1, shirt not pulled down, did not think it would touch, but it did, to my surprise. Watched this one on video, speed back up was insane!!! So far no problems from dropping speed work.

435 x 1, with shirt pulled down, touched, no problem, good long pause, then smoked it!!! Did not see any stars, felt very light. My dad, who was my spotter/liftoff, said it looked faster than the previous 385, but I watched the video later, and it looked about the same speed, not any faster.

465 x 1, with my middle shirt. It felt very good, I watched it and it was very fast. Good enough pause, and no question on the lockout. I honestly felt good enough with this weight to open with it, but I am opening conservatively for right now, and will open with 435 or 440 to be safe.

The 465 was 10 lbs short of the best I have ever done under any circumstances, and the two times I have done 475 they were at best questionable lifts. One was a butt raise and the other was a very ragged lockout. I am definately the strongest I have ever been. Feel pretty good physically and very good mentally. I really beleive I have the board at large, and specifically bigokie and Screwball and PowerlifterJay to thank for this. I have stolen ideas from many sources, and although I may be wrong (ha, but anything is possible), I think this should be a very good meet coming up next Saturday, and at the beach bash in July, look out!!! The Okie Crew will be dominant!!!

Oh and by the way to finish the workout, I unracked the weights and took a bath. No accessory work at all. I may do a tiny bit of AR and rotator work this week, but nothing else. We'll see how it works out.

Way to go Brian! It sounds like you are going to do very well at this meet. I see some really big lifts ahead next Saturday from the Oklahoma crew!

You are on track! I can feel some huge numbers in your immediate future. Lately, your training has become well-thought-out and focused. I can't wait to see that weight fly this weekend. Less is better at this stage; you are doing the right thing. Booyah!

Way to keep at it. Your dedication will take you where you wanna go. You are obsessed, and its good! I would open with 450lbs, which if you got nothing else your close to your best anywya. Then i would hit 475 then 500. I go through stages where i hti openers only. Its part of the game. Thats when your trying. But until you gain more experience , meaning getting control of your emotions, and hyper ness before a meet, open light. that way you feel lke your in the game still. But go big! I mean man thats what its all about. Fuck "getting on the board". But if you must , get on the board, then go big! Go get gettem bro. Your a freakin beast, and i know you will hit 500 soon. Then you will be one of a few. Even though 500 shouldnt be your goal 550 or 600 should be. Your basically at 500 now. So we'll see.

Good job though! PR's are what makes us come back to the gym.

thanks guys,

I know I am getting (way) ahead of myself, but in my mind, I will be challenging the state records in the 242 and maybe the 220's sometime down the road. Interestingly enough, these are also world records as luck would have it. Those currently out of reach records are 625 and 613 respectively, I believe. I can see challenging these in the next 5 years, hell, maybe before I turn 30.

In my mind right now, I am a 500 bencher. It just has not actually happened yet, but in my mind that is only because I have not gone for it in a meet. JM Blakely said something about to be a 500 bencher, you have to see yourself as one. I have already done that, and have in my mind the goal of hitting 600. Right now that is out of reach, but in a year or two, who knows? If I should happnen to hit 500 on Saturday, then I will have gained 145 lbs in my official bench in 10 months, and 2 of those months I could not train at all for health reasons.

Thanks for all the encouragement, I promise the Okie crew will do what they can to earn it Saturday.

Screwball should scare some guys this weekend. He is a massive, strong guy. If he thought he was as strong as I think he is, he would be scaring 600 rather than 500 this weekend.

Feelin good,

B.

I can definitely see Brian taking the records by the time he is 30, 3 years. Now that I've trained with him a couple times and know what he's capable of. I'm guessing he'll be close to 585 by this time next year. There is no way he won't go over 500 in the next two meets.

Screwball I think just needs to realize he is as strong as he is. He is one of the biggest guys I know, and if it weren't for Brian would be the best bencher I know. He will definitely hit 600 when he gets his triceps up to speed.

Both of these guys will do good in May and better in July, just wait and see!
