Is it possible to do both?

Im really interested in training for a fitness figure competion. Im already in the gym pretty much 7 days a week sometimes twice a day. Well the problem is I love to run. So Im also doing a marathon and a few 10milers this year. Is it possible to do both the runs and the competions. I have found over the past few months if I cut down on carbs and increase protein I can really see my muscles and from weight training Im getting faster. The only problem is when I cut down on carbs I also get more fatigued on longer runs, so after about mile 12 I feel tired. I would really like to compete but dont know how to do both without one suffering, has anyone here done this?

Sorry IMO it is not possible at all marathon running requires a completely diffrent diet and method of training then getting ready for a figure comp. I would make a choice you can do both but not at the same time just need to plan it out depending on when each is in season and what is avalible in your area.

Thanks another question for you: What is typically the season for fitness competitions? For marathons they usually run in October/November. I can do fitness after or before that but dont know is there typically a season. All the shows I have been to were in the summer but I didnt know if thats just typical in this area?

Competition season generally runs March - November. And as you noted they pick up over the summer with the major shows / nationals occurring later in the year.

So you could probably start getting ready for a show in the spring do one or two at the begining of the season then switch gears and get ready for a marathon. Kudos on wanting to do a marathon only time I feel the need to run is if someone is chasing me. ;)

Marathon runners look like they do for a very good reason.

The same can be said of sprinters.

Can you wedge youself somewhere in between the two??

Yes...

...but its far from maximizing either extreme.

I both compete in both fitness and martial arts. When i'm off-season, it's fine. But on-season, i basically have to put all else on the backburner. I tried to do both my first time and ended up with waaaayyyyyyy too many injuries, totally burnt out (as if pre-contest isn't bad enough) and i was the ultimate biatch from hell. Now, when on season, i focus ONLY on fitness training, and everything was better---my training, my results, and especially my sanity LOL.
