vinyl, didnt you just say in another post..why would you want to isolate the traps??? but you use straps to isolate your back, and take the biceps and forearms out??

LOL, are you stalking me?

What i meant was......if i don't use straps, my forearms and biceps will give way before my back does because i usually do them after pull-ups and deads.

definatly a yes on the straps if your going heavy, especially if im going at 90 degree or real close to it, the grip and forearms start to give wat before the back

I love them with the undehand grip. I feel it more in my lats that way. An overhand grip seems to place the stress on my upper back slightly more.

Exactly the same for me. I use under-hand grip when I want to focus on my lats, over-hand grip when my upper back is my main focus.
Lean is the same for both. (I lean over a bit more than CCJ did in his vid he posted.)

The more upright you are the more you take your back out of the equation, period! Back is back, Traps are traps.

T3C,

i answer to your question about the differneces. db is taxing becuase of having to stabilize on one side of your body being pulled on, using a bar will make that factor easier, but since you can use more weight makes up for the difference. its hard, but its easiser for me to get into a grove with the bar. i like doing them with an overhand grip with pointer on the smooth, stay bent over at 90 degrees (or sligthly less) and row from the floor.

i hope that helps

a wide overhand grip and moving the upperbody from perpendicular to the floor to 45 degree angle while pulling the weight to upper waist to tax the lower traps/midback

medium reverse underhand grip moving the upperbody from 45 to 70 degrees angle while pulling the weight to lower abs and with an EZ bar (to protect the wrist) for the lats.

In both cases use straps.

Many people try to keep their torso fix, but you should get the weight going with a little deadlift swing to get the best neurological response from the backmusles, after all their prime function is to keep the torso erect.

well if that's the case why is my back getting bigger ? :)

My guess is that is due to where you pull the bar to. Low to your sternum. Pretty much where I pull to as well.

IMHO, if one was to pull higher towards there chest, more traps would be invloved and less back/lats. Adding in the to equation as well, how far over a person leans will bring more or less traps and more back into it.
