Chew Tobacco

You want to lose weight, chew tobacco the day before the contest. I havent tried it myself yet and I dont know anyone who has but I read somnething interesting from powerlifter Eddie Robinson about dropping weight from the December January 1994 muscle Media 2000. According to Eddie,

Well, what most people think is strange is that I go through probably four or five packets of chewing tobacco a day.

MM (Muscle media)...Why? To curb your appetite?

Eddie...No, it makes me spit my ass off.

MM....What do you mean? To get rid of water?

Eddie....Exactly. If you go to my room before a show, youll probably see a tan carpet with brown spots all over it. I sit back in a chair and put a glass in the middle of the room and see how many times I can make it (laughing). Boy you stick that stuff in your mouth, and your glands go crazy.

Has anyone tried this for powerlifting? I dont chew tobacco but I will try it in April if I need to make weight for a contest. What do you think about this? Anyone out there gonna try it...gimme your opinions!!

That's ridiculous. You are kidding, right?

Using the weight of water, you'd need to spit out a gallon and a half of saliva to lose 12 lbs., all without drinking even a drop of water. Not to mention the health problems involved in becoming addicted to tobacco, which is hard as hell to quit. Trust me, I used to chew - stay far, far away from that sh*t.

As for the weight, cheesepuss - sorry, I can't help you much there. I'd just try to lift in the higher class - you might surprise yourself. jmho.

Drop you carbs the week before the meet, assuming you are not training then. Each gram of glycogen holds between three to four grams of water. I can drop about ten pounds in three days if I am very strict. This is assuming you are weighing in the night before. If not, let us know, and someone will come up with something.

Dropping weight

Look in Powerlifting USA for a book by JM Blakley. He explains how to drop weight before a meet and not lose any performance. Good Luck.

yeah I will weigh in the night before....so just eat protien the week before the meet? how much water should I drink? Thanks arioch for the help....also is creatine a bad idea while doing this?

Promethus, That information from Eddie Robinson is for real. I dont think there would be any health risks if you chewed for 2 days a few times a year. I also heard that JM s book is great for dropping weight.

OK there are many ways to drop weight 12lbs isn't really all that bad if i read right your weighing in the night before so You can either start carb depleting 3 days before the meet which means cut out all your carb intake and just keep it high protein minimal water( pljay knows specifics on this way). OR you can pull what i did to drop 10lbs in less than 24 hours but this was a little drastic and I would only do it if i really cared about the meet, it might have been different for my body b/c I'm 17 5 9 170lbs. But I went from 174 to 164. From 5p.m. the night before all i ate was a high protein low carb bar and drank minimal water then when I woke up in the morning i took arbuterol which is a water weight loss pill then i didn't eat anything and only drank enough to swallow those pills, 3 hours later i ate 1/4 of a protein bar then i took another 3 pills of arbuterol to keep losing water during this time i was spitting and pissing like crazy. I then ate 1/4 of the bar and took another 3 pills 4 hours later with minimal water well throughout the day from 6 a.m. to 4p.m. my weigh in time i ate 3/4 of a protein bar and drank maybe 8fl oz of water. And dropped 10lbs starting from the night before at 5p.m. I really didn't like how throughout the day I was so hungry but i did take appetite supresents when it came to lunch time and all my friends were eating chicken sandwhiches and cookies and shit. BUt i made weight a bad thing was i had to lift 30 min after so I just ate nothing but carbs. I stil lifted the same. It didn't stun me at all.

Thanks Cubanito17...good info....I'll try the carb depletion metod....It's not so important that I make my class.....but it would be cool not to compete against the 242's...big mutha's. PLJay would you have any specifics on this carb method....I was thinking about buying JM's book....but I gotta see how much moola I have.

thanks again cubanito17

Creatine will cause you to hold water, and as its primary function involves replenishing the atp-cpk cycle, it is not the greatest for directly improving a one rep max, as it takes 6 - 10 for the atp-cpk cycle to run its first course. Most people do not take anywhere near this long to execute a one rep max, even though sometimes it may feel like far longer.

Drink at least a gallon of water a day, which you should already be doing. When you drop your carbs, you will dehydrate quickly, so I personally feel your water intake should be doubled.

The one nice thing about this method is that you can use it as an excuse to eat steak nearly every night.

I have not read JM's book, so it appears as if I must purchase something else.
