How wide should my squat stance be?

I've read a lot about how you should have a really wide stance (in my opinion its really wide, in yalls it might not be =) when box squatting or even just regular squatting, but I haven't read anything about exactly how wide it should be. I know it depends on the person but how wide do yall go? I'm about 6 foot 2 maybe a lil more so I think I should be able to go fairly wide, but trying it really wide w/just bodyweight feels weird. So, does anyone have a general number or at least what they use so I can get an idea?

I wish I could help more but the only answer is what is comfortable to you. I tried the "really wide" stance and it was uncomfortable and the "really close'' stance was too so I went in between. Its all personal preference in my opinion. But as a guide I go about two to three inches(on each side) wider than shoulders.

I tried a really wide stance and it is very awkward. I'm gradually tried to move my stance out to try and help my squat out.

Thanks guys, do you know if there is a specific width you have to be to squat in a meet (not that I'm anywhere remotely close to doing such a thing) or is it whatever u want?

in a meet, so long as you break parallel it doesnt matter. to get your stance out wider you can slowly lower your box which will slowly increase your flexibility so that you can sit down on a below parallel box with your feet wide. when i say wide i mean with your feet around 4 ft. apart.

beware that older style monolifts are 48" across. this is pretty wide in my opinion anyway. any wider, and i doubt you are gonna break parallel in an APF meet.

dude, i used to squat with an average stance( about 3" wider than shoulder width) but i started working out with screwball and went stoopid wide, so wide we had to move the bar outside the power rack. at first my weights went down but in a couple of months it surpassed my earlier PR's. the only down fall is if you don't want a big ass don't do it. it'll really work your hips and glutes out.
