how many cals to maintain

How many cals do i need to maintain my weight. i weigh 160lbs, weight training 4 days a week. i did a search and it said i need 2823. Is this not too many cals. any of you guys have a way to workout how many i need

what formula gave you that number?

it could very well be that #. those formulas don't work for me as i am a low calorie person.

in your case they may be too much/too little. best way to find out is to try it out for 2 or 3 weeks, monitor your progress closely, and adjust the numbers from there.

hope that helps. caloric intake is a very individual thing, unique to each person.

it was a website that worked out ur bmi and bmr for you. could you give me a rough ball park figure, say bodyweight X12 ,etc. would give me something to work with

Again, it is very individual. Your individual metabolism and your activity level play a role. You need to monitor yourself. Count your calories. To see how many your burn throughout the day, wear a heart rate monitor.

In my opinion, the BMI is useless for people who workout.

why don't you start where the original number is. prepare you eating schedule and plan before hand, write it all down, and then record daily if you did what you set out to do. after 1 week, if the calories are that high, you'll begin to feel it and you could adjust downward.

i live by bodyweight x 10 thru 13 because i can't eat high calories. some people say this is bad, some good. i think you should test the waters in the manner i suggested or as others have and go from there.

Your calorie intake shoud not only depend on your weight, but also on your level of activity...how intense are your workouts, how much cardio, all that good stuff. I agree with Timtim, if you are not trying to gain, what are a few trial and error weeks going to change?! Be certain to keep a food log and monitor your weight, bd%, u know, the works :)
