How long before I hit ketosis?

I started the South Beach diet 3 days ago to help support my GF who wanted to do it. I got some keto strips today and it looks like I'm only barely into ketosis. How long should it take to get deep in?

I think there's too many carbs (even in Phase One of the SBD) to get into ketosis... but I could be wrong.

I'm doing Atkins, eating 11g of carbs a day (they recommend under 20) and my keto strips are only pink... I can't seem make them purple. I can't figure it out. Maybe you and I are very metabolically resistant. :P

I'll wait another couple days. I'm not cunting carbs but basically avoiding everything except incidentals. No fruit, juice, soda, alcohol, bread, grains, beans, pasta. Basically just eggs, meat, nuts, water, and veggies. I'd guess 20 or so grams of carbs...maybe 5g sugar. I'll have to keep track tomorrow and see.

make sure you are not eating too much protien

need 60-70% fat first couple days

The south beach diet is not a ketogenic diet. It is not meant to put you in ketosis. It is a lower carb diet that focusses on whole grain carb sources and sets you in the dierction of eating lower on the GI scale.

on top of that

NO diet can target an area

no matter what the hype says
if you believe that i have some land near yellowstone for sale

any diet you are on that causes weight loss will cause weight loss from all over the body
it will seem as if it is all from the midriff but look at your face, cheeks, neck, hands, feet, ankles , etc.... and you will see it is all over
just more dramatic in larger areas
just as sit ups will not cause you to tone just the tummy

targeting a muscle groups builds that muscle not reduce fat from that area
and no food plan can target a fat area
fat is general and all over on the outside of your skeleton and on the inside too

do a well founded keto diet if you want to see go strong results
not hype

atkins had 22 years to refine his diet and he was still wrong on a few points esp caffiene

you mean caffeine is okay on a ketogenic diet?! Halleluja!

yes it is TRI

dr atkins when he did his initial study most of his subjects were loading up on diet pop and did not realize that some of his subjects were sensitive to citric acid
he blamed caffiene and aspartame for their non-results
so he suggested during the induction phase no caffiene
he did acknowledge it as a thermogenic for OWL
but still did not like aspartame
and some say yes some say no
if you must have aspartame count it as 2 grams of carb
and citric acid as another 2
but if you are sensitive becareful
notice in his book he said lemon juice should be used sparingly?

Overall you're correct...but Phase (2 weeks) is definitely suited to put you in ketosis...no whole grain carbs at all. It's completely up to the individual if they want to avoid the few carbs that are allowed in Phase 1...some beans, and most veggies. I decided to avoid the beans completely and figured that the relatively small amount of carbs from veggies shouldn't be a problem provided I don't make them the main part of my meal. So...I see no reason why I shouldn't get into ketosis. I kept track of my carbs today and figure I got about 20g total and 10g total sugars spread through the entire day. Add dinner and I'l likely get another 5g and 1-2g sugar.
