Although, I was only doing 225lbs on front squats... I was making the best effort to dip my ass down further than level... well, as I was doing my usual trying to get air after squatting thing (making sure I don't fall over or pass out) a big black guy comes over and tells me I notice you go down ALL the way on your squats... I don't ever see that unless I'm looking in a mirror...

I couldn't really say anything back to him but a smile and an exhaled "uh huh" -- but it made me feel good that I actually GOT DOWN all the way...

I usually just go down and then let the weight strech me down further (as far as I can go) then I just power up.

Oh well... that's my little story tonight... other than the fact I can't walk right now from the pain, I feel like I have accomplished even more tonight. :)

I almost had to uncompliment this HS kid the other day on his "squats". He had 315 on the bar and told his HS buddy, "I've done 3 reps with this before, it's no problem". He was about 5'8", 165lbs and had the pins set right below his elbows. He couldn't have done a squat with just the bar with the pins set that damn high.

He then proceeds to break off about eight 1/64 squats to his delight. It was an amazing feat. He was "the shit".

Nice job on going low Citruscide. I'm more impressed with someone who goes low with 135 then someone who does halfassed squats with 225+ (Something is magical about the 225 number, everyone seems to think they can squat it)

haha yeah welcome to my old gym, no one not that i have seen apart from me goes anywhere, its all like maybe an eighth of the way down, i'm not saying i'm the shit at squatting but its pretty pathetic, not even going close to paralle.
going to my new gym for first time tonight hopefully its alot better :D

Hey what's wrong with HS kids? :(

Anyways... sounds like the morons at my gym.... i'm signing up for a new one come January 1st.... this one is 5 times as big... less waiting time for machines... and everyone knows what they're doing.
Only thing i don't like is that 90% of the dudes there are on roids.

Wiz -- now you don't like guys on roids?!? Aww geesh... :)

Nothing is wrong with HS Kids.. the thing is, that about 90%+ of them need a trainer to help them establish correct form. Working out with the "bigger" teenager isn't going to cut it... because he doesn't know his shit either. The Teens on this board have put some time into studying a little bit, and therefore, know alot more than anyone their age (or even older).

Point is, now that I think about it, I hardly EVER see anyone go all the way down... A guy tonight did 455 but went about half-way...

Nothing is wrong with HS kids. It's just that 90% of them have no clue what they are doing and try to lift 2X's more than they should. I was lifting when I was in HS. When I started, I didn't know what the hell I was doing and tried to squat 2X's as much as I could. :D Good thing the owner saw I had a desire to learn and he took my under his wing and showed me the correct form on most the lifts.

It was also a HUGE plus that I was into computers and found my way to a few fitness boards that have been invaluable.

People will never squat with correct form until they decide to leave their ego at the door. I could put on 315+ and do half assed squats and have all the people on the treadmills watching me or I could stick with the less impressive weights and get a better workout.

Good job man. I have started doing speed bench at the University Gym on Thursday nights...and I see some "nifty lifting" in that place for sure.

225 front squat is awesome when done right. I have seen some big boys buckle when challenged to go all the way down, with less.

i was with a client the other night and was half and half impressed with one guy doing 135 front squats to the floor. the only problem with it was he was bouncing a little from the bottom and his knees.....his knees were shooting in like a virgin on prom night. i thought "how great someone who goes all the way down" but then thought "he wont for long". had i not been with a client and he was half the gym away, i would have taken a few seconds to mention it to him.

ive been doing all my squats to the floor lately, in hopes of motivating some people to do the same. usually someone ego-lifting 315 will know in their heart that they arent protecting their knees by going half way down, especially if they see more and more people using relatively lighter weights, going ATF, and still having bigger legs, without knee problems.

ah well, its all a process.

So what do you guys typically squat? I tend to think I'm on the low side...I'm about the only person I ever see doing squats. I typically don't go too heavy because I don't have a partner to help me if I get stuck. Thursday I went the heaviest since I started a few months ago. 225x15, 255x10, 285x7...ATF. Damn did my legs hurt yesterday...could barely lower myself to my damn chair at work.
