gloves....

DTM said:
i've been lifting for 6 moths now, and i have noticed that the bigger guys at the gym, who i see daily never wear gloves, and all the new guys wear them. i not an expert lifter or anything, although i lucky to have good genetics, but why is this? i also find it strange that the stronger people usually where several layers or long sleave shirts. i'm proud of my biceps, i usually wear tight t-shirts.

I think that all of the new guys wear whatever they consider makes them look like a battle hardened gymrat. Unfortunately, most peoples opinion of how this should be, just makes em look stupid. The same people that wear gloves tend to wear a belt alot too......weird.
As for the stronger guys covering up.....thats probably because they are happy with how they are and they dont feel the need to show their worth through the size, or lack of, of their muscles. It seems that all the new guys I meet have something to prove to other people.......hence the tight, showy clothing.
Just my 2c.

Well I guess I'm in the minorit here because I always wear my gloves. I don't know what it is but I've been wearing them for so long, I wouldn't think about lifting without them. Also, this may sound stupid, but when I strap them on, it's kind of lick a switch into lifting mode(kinda like Sly with his backwards hat in Over The Top). btw- remember Over The Top, great movie.

I find lifting with gloves more comfortable. As for attire, I lft at home, so there is no one to impress but myself.....and I am not that impressive....

well i use cloves cuz i got callis all over my hands and they get to a point were they start to hert like a bastard so i try to use some gloves other wise when i listing i will be concentrating on my damn hands instead of what i am working

I was all about gloves for a while until one got lost and lifting w' one is just retarded. I like it better now w'out, can really feel the bar and get a better grip, 'specially when rowing or deadlifting. I am a chick, so the callouses I am not to fond of, but it all comes w' the territory. My man doesn't seem to mind much.
