G5.0 vs. Gravity: The Neurotic Ramblings of a Man on a Mission

The mini's are okay as they don't add too much eccentrice stress, just watch it when you start doing cycles for ME day.

Phase One: WSB
Week 2 -- Wednesday

Today was tough

Squat Clean
A few triples w/ 135, then two triples with 185

-With all this talk about the Oly lifts lately I had to get in on the action. I really wish I'd have brought my camera. I was feeling very confident with 135 and for the most part 185 was easy too, though on the very last rep my balance wasn't great, so I called it quits. These came a lot more naturally than I would have thought - I've done power cleans for a while and I though that dropping uner the bar would be extremely awkward. We'll see what happens when the weight goes up, though :D

ME Bench
warmups
Triples @ 225, 275
Singles @ 315, 335, 335, 335

-I decided to do three singles @ 90% of 1rm (I'm using 365 as my 1rm, even though I've done 375 - 375 was likely due only to the juice  ). My elbows kinda hurt the whole time, as did my shoulders. Not happy about that.

CGBP
warmups, 275x5x3

-Again, shoulders and elbows were bothering me. This weight is a joke strength-wise but was pretty uncomfortable today. Fuck.

Pendlay Rows
warmup, 245x8x3

-Very tough, but felt good. There was a super-curler in the rack next to me, and as soon as I saw him walking toward the rack I knew what was coming :D. He was swinging the bar up on every rep with one ten lb. plate on each side of the bar, and he worked up to four tens per side. You can probably imagine what those reps looked like, but I kinda thought it looked like a cross between a strict curl and my squat cleans from earlier. Good times.

Then I did a set of 30 curls with just the bar 'til the burn was almost painful, and walked over to the tricep pushdown spot and did a set of about 35 or so (stopped counting partway through :)). I'm concerned about my joints. I'm not sure what to do for ME work in the next two weeks. I may do push-press for triples or something. At this rate it's gonna be a long time 'til I get a 4-plate bench (which is the other part of my goal for when I get a 600 deadlift).

Have you tried any of that MSM/Chondroitin stuff? It didn't seem to do anything for my joints when I tried it but many swear by it.

BiggT and Nelms seem to have everyone fired up about the Oly lifts and I'm getting tempted by the squat cleans, too. I just know that the gym owner would go ballistic if I dumped a bar from shoulder height, though.

I've tried it and wasn't too impressed. I may use ibuprofen, but I'm not sure if that's a great idea. Would that only mask the pain and cause mreo touble, or is it an anti-inflammatory that would likely cause the microtauma in my joints to improve? I'll have to read up on this stuff...

I can't dump the bar either, but I've managed to catch it on its return to the ground every time so far. Well, apart from once when I was practising ducking under the bar from the hang. I dropped the bar and wasn't wearing any shoes, so I had to do an emergency vertical jump :)

Definitely should've brought the camera. :D

I've occasionally seen fish oil mentioned as something that helps with joint pain. I doubt it'd be a panacea, but it's worth taking anyway for general health if you're not already doing so.

RADAR, who used to be a mod in the aas forum, says he swears by jello for his joints and takes a cube every day. Maybe try posting on the diet forum for suggestions on joint pains.

Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory but long-term usage just so you can hammer the joints more is probably contra-indicated.

Just thought i'd throw this up there, but my joints do much better when I have a high omega-3 intake than when I do not. When I eat salmon daily I swear I cannot have sore elbows or knees no matter what I do.

Well, there are three avacados ripening on my counter as we speak. I too have heard of EFA's being good for joint pain. I cook with olive oil every day -not sure of the EFA profile for it though.

I think that's because it's made from horse hooves.
