Forearms give out on deadlifts. Any suggestions?

My grip is not strong enough to handle my poundages..

...then strengthen it

Straps can be an "aid' as you call them...but only in the short term while you are bringing your grip strength up. Use them for too long and they will become a crutch.

Just use straps. Problem solved.

Not "solved", just covered up......

While your grip may not be strong enough for your "poundages", he is asking how to strengthen his grip. Grip strength is important to him, it apparently is not important to you. Nothing wrong with that, just as long as everyone understands everyone elses goals.

Then why are you advocating using chalk? Does that strengthen his grip? According to your logic, chalk is also a crutch.
I think most everyone gets to a point in their training where your grip strength just can't catch up to the poundages used in deads or shrugs.Forearms has to be the most overtrained bodypart as they are being worked on in just about every exercise. You shouldn't need to work them out directly, very few do.

Chalk can in no way be even considered to a crutch like straps are. Chalk just makes it so the bar does not slip out of you hand. You are still using all your own grip strength which cannot be said when you use straps. Also you can get your grip strenght to extremely heavy poundages. It all depends how important. I think the reason so many people have unimpressive forearms and poor grip strength is because they put way to little emphasis on it.

Exactly...how else do people pull 7, 8, even 900lbs in competition without straps. They work the f*ck out of their grip.

back to the point of this thread. static holds are imho the best for grip training.

imho thick bar training is best......but if you dont have access to one then yep timed holds or once inch lock outs.

chalk=aid
strap=crutch (ie cheating)

Straps aid in slipping too. Honestly, who gives a shit what you use for a better grip? Look at Dorrian Yates, he uses straps for all his back work. Does he have underdeveloped forearms? Not everybody has a good grip strength for all their lifts,and some can't develop it.
