fitness/exercise and nutrition info for a 12 year old girl

First, let me appologize for changing my gender in order to post here. I just figured that this was the most appropriate place for me to attempt to get "real" help and answers. After thist post I'll change my gender back to male and leave you girls to your pillow fighting, toe nail painting, slumber party posting. Well, maybe I'll come back if I need to reply to something but I'll keep it to a very minimum, I promise.

OK, so I have a 12 year old sister that is turning into a little chunckster. She comes home form school and does nothing but eat and watch tv the rest of the day. She likes to cook, unfortuantely it's all foods loaded with carbs and fats because obviosuly, thats what tastes good. My parents don't understand how to deal with it, I know because that was my fate also as a preteen. I only thinned out once I got to highschool and got myself into some bad habits. I definately don't want her heading that direction so I am interveining (sp?) now while she's still whithin reach.

My goal in all of this is to get her to loose some weight, become active, gain some knowledge of proper nutrition and keep her motivated and interested in an active and healthy lifestyle. To me, the key to her succes is going to be to get her to have some fun, and for me to do it with her. So I signed both of us up at the YMCA. She was real excited the first day I took her. We got a tour of the place, it's pretty big, and they told her about all the cool and fun classes and activities they have. She really want to get into volleyball, a rock climbing class and I'd liek to her interested in Basketball. The problem is that everything is in 6 week classes and you cannot add until the next class begins. Next classes start in January, so right now there is not much she can do. She cannot use any of the workout rooms, except the teen workout room which doesn't have much, until she takes a begginers fitness class, which I wanted her to take anyways. So for now I have her do 20-30 mintues on the exercise bike when we get there (I do the same in the next room), then we play raquet ball and/or shoots hoops. It's fun, and it atleast gets her out of the house for a few hours, but it's going to get boring quick.

I lift at another gym Tues, Thurs and Sat. so I take her to the Y Mon, Weds and Sat. Once she can join classes I'm going to work it out with the rest of my family so that she can hopefully go everyday and someone can take her and pick her up.

In the mean time I want to get some sort of routine/plan going for our exercise days before she looses interest. I'm also starting to slowly tell her about nutrition and why she shouldn't eat certain things, despite the fact that they taste so good. All I know about training is geared toward my goals and growth, same with nutrition. I know nothing of what is required/ideal for women, let alone a 12 year old girl.

Any info, suggestions, ideas I could get would be greatly helpful and appreciated.

Thanks in advance ladies
