Fitness after Baby

Hi ladies, I am new to this site and have been reading for a few days. I finally registered today and am glad I did. I am 42 (43 in oct.) I have always enjoyed working out, but have never really gotten a handle on the diet and supplement regimen. I am still in decent shape, but of course, after a baby, there are those extra pounds that I definitely want to lose. I am currently, 5'6, 170 pounds (muscle included), bf% ?. I am interested in beginning a strict regime and am not afraid of hard work. Please provide me with a diet plan along with supplements (when to use and how much). I am dying to be a gorgeous woman again!!!

Welcome & congrats on joining & baby! The best advice I can give to start with is check out the "Are you new to EF Women's Board - START HERE" -- LOTS of good info and guidance there.

Clean diet and weights will make a huge difference....I lost 60 pounds after my last one doing both!

How old is baby/child?

Clean diets are priority (and I need to start listening to myself, lol) ...... at least a MOSTLY clean diet would be necessary. The links up top will give you sample diets.

Fitting working out in needs to also be a priority ..... hard, when you want to spend time with a little one. Make it a "family affair" - go for a walk with a stroller, work out with a video at home (and baby/child can be playing next to you).

I am working on doing this - my little one is about 8.5 months and I REFUSE to take time away from her. SInce I work full time (more than full time, lol) I want to share every second with her when I can - and I will not take time away from her to go to the gym. I would rather be fat right now. THAT SAID, I am tired of being out of shape. I am working on scheduling time to workout WITH her, so I can still be with her. My work is crazy, so it is hard .... baby steps.

If you are coming from a state of couch-potato-ness .... then any bit of movement is helpful. Even something mild like going for a 30 min walk will help. Lifting weights will be VITAL to gaining some shape back - it will help boost that metabolism and get you feeling "tight" again. I swear, since having a baby, my metabolism is shot. A lot of that is a loss of muscle mass, I am sure. Gaining that muscle back will be helpful in losing lbs.

Try tossing the processed foods, focus on fresh foods. The stuff i nboxes is not worth your time. If you have a toddler - STOP eating off his/her plate. It is so easy to grap ahandful of goldfish, a handful of chicken nuggets, or whatever - cleaning their plate when they are done eating IN ADDITION to your dinner. All those excess calories add up!

Cut out the sodas, juices, sweetened drinks. Juice is empty calories - you are better off having a REAL orange than drinking OJ. That goes for a child too! Try to drink at least 1 gallon of water a day.

That is all i can come up with now ..... Baby Daisy needs dinner ..... :chomp:

Thanks so much for the reply. My daughter is 2, so I can now really get back into the gym without feeling like I really have to spend every minute with her. I have always worked out, just got real lazy after the baby. Use to be a "gym rat". Never could quite get the max out of my training, cause I never new the "secrets". I am still not interested in AS, however, I am interested in utilizing the best "legal supplement" to reap an awesome result. For example, the best brand of protein (I like EAS products... they taste great) CLA, creatine, etc. for example. Most importantly, when and how much to consume. If you or anyone out there can help, please reply.

I'd suggest not getting caught up in this whole "what is the best product" -- for the most part if they are decent products it isn't that big a deal. The diet is a much bigger deal and consistency w/ training. Don't let yourself get sidetracked trying to find these supplements or supposed "fitness aids" - its pretty easy- just eat good quality real foods, pay attention to how you are eating and train balls to the wall. Also don't even go into the AAS discussion - its really irrelevant right now.

I suggest taking a look at the resources in the "Are you new to EF Women's Board" thread - there are several sample diets and also the "Shadow Project is linked there - excellent results from many of the girls!
