First cycle diet questions

why dont you want to take in fat? You realize that fat retention is caused by surges in insuline which is caused by foods high on the glycemic index which is usually processed foods, sugar and CARBS.

Fat actually slow the digestion of carbs and effectively reduces their GI of them. Fats are essential for proper brain function and is a bae for most hormones.

I was planning on taking a supplement pre work out, post work out, and before bed of essential fatty acids. I also cook my eggs for the sandwich in extra virgin olive oil. I figured this would be just enough for my bodies processes while not contributing more then needed. I could always add some baked beans and cashews or other nuts as well as a snack throughout the day if necessary. Thank you for your information.

I drink 64 ozs of smoothies a day and couldn't live without them. However, my smoothies are much more calorie dense than yours. I also don't substitute meals for my smoothies I drink them in between my meals. Give that a try, eat lean protein sources with low gi carbs and quality fats and save your smoothies for in between meals. On workout days I also have most of my smoothie pre and post workout. I'd be glad to share my smoothie recipe if you're interested.

That sounds great! I'm always open to new ways to get this machine of a body going. I usually feel pretty full though after my smoothie. It takes up the whole Vitamix blender. The fruits I throw in are a whole apple, a whole banana, mango pieces, blueberries, 3 strawberries, handful of kale and spinach, 3 carrots, and half a cucumber, along with one scoop of protein. I was thinking I could also add some high protein yogurt as well to make it more dense. I also don't add any water or juice to this smoothie. I could start adding almond milk or something of the like. What do you think? And I would like to see your recipe.

What I found to work better for me in general is to try and get more of my macro's off of whole foods instead of shakes. So maybe instead of having 3 smoothies a day, have 1 and turn the other 2 into real meals (ex:steak/broccoli, chicken/brown rice, lean ground beef/whole wheat tortillas). Assuming you have your calorie intake/macros on track for your weight, you should be fine.

Thank you for your input. I'll reformulate my diet plan before I start this up with all the information I gather.

Thank you. You came here with a DIET question instead of thinking that drugs were the main answer.

That means you have an understanding of what your doing and that supplements are just a peice of the puzzle not the whole puzzle!!

I've been doing a lot of reading up before I started spending the money for this cycle. I want to get it right the first time! Enough people out here have walked this road for me to make a foolish mistake like not tap into this knowledge. Ultimately that would make me waste my money and jeopardize my health.

That's awesome, another fellow vitamixer! I couldn't live without my vitamix. To be honest your recipe is very similar to mine. I change my recipe up every so often to allow for variety in my smoothies but I usally always rotate my greens between spinach, kale, all different kinds of lettuces, dandelion greens really every green there is I rotate them every week. I also use rotate between cucumber and celery. The one thing that I don't see in your shake that I would start adding right away is an avocado. Add one of those in there and part of your daily fat requirement is already taken care of. The one thing I don't do is mix protein powder in my smoothies, I get all my protein through out the day from chicken and lean beef.

My recipe is a generous handful of greens, 1 banana, 1 whole apple minus the seeds, 1 whole avocado with the peel minus the nut, 1 whole orange with the peel and seeds, 4-5 stalks of celery, 2 cups of low fat yogurt, 3 cups of mixed frozen fruit which consists of blueberries, mango, strawberries and pineapple, and 3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. 64 oz's of my smoothie is ~1000 calories, I eat 4000 calories a day so, as you can see my smoothies are used to supplement my overall diet in between my meals. Like I said though your recipe is already good if you like it, I would just highly recommend throwing in an avocado, peel and all.

Thanks for the recipe. I wish I could add an avacado, but unfortunately I cannot eat the avacados here in Florida as I'm allergic. I'll pick up the apple cider vinegar and ginger root and add it to the smoothie though, see how I like it. I wish I could just eat throughout the day, but with my current schedule it's almost impossible to get real meals in since I'm either at work, on the road, or in school most of the day. This is why I need to use the smoothies to supplement my diet, and add the protein to make sure I'm getting enough throughout the day. On the weekends I can eat all my protein through whole foods without a problem though, so during this time I'll probably only use shakes pre and post workout since during that time I'm too lazy to cook lol.

I know how it is being busy, it really sucks. I usually prepare all my food for the whole week on Saturdays and freeze it. I only prepare my smoothies and eggs nightly. The ginger root and apple cider vinegar really won't add any nutritional value but for overall health ginger root and apple cider vinegar is extremely good for you. That sucks that you are allergic to avocados, they are a powerhouse of nutrition. You could look into adding some whole flax seeds to your smoothie or flax seed oil to up your fat intake.

I honestly think that it's just the avacados in Florida, because when I went to Puerto Rico to visit family I tried a guacamole there, and I didn't have the allergic reaction. I'm hoping it's just a specific type, I wil probably go to whole foods and see if I can experiment to find one I can take as I grew up eating and love avacados. I will look at getting some flax seeds though and adding it to the smoothie!
