Define a CLEAN Diet

Where to start? I guess this is the hardest part...

What exactly is a clean diet? Where can I go to that is a really good reference source for a clean diet and has a day to day meny to follow? Any books or websites you can point me to?

Looking to drop 25 pounds, drop my BMI, and increase muscle mass for sports. I have a good foundation, but recent injuries piled on the pounds. Looking to get back into athletic shape and keep the pounds off.

Any resources would be greatly appreciated!

Another good Webb site to start with would be Fitday.com will help you with your Daily Calorie count, carbs, fat, and protein.

Burn The Fat Feed The Muscle by Tom Venuto.....Must Read for anyone that hasnt.

I've heard a few people talk about this book, I'm going to get a copy soon, thanks for the book. Great food list and webpage, too; thanks for those. That will help me get going and learn what goals to set and also make them measurable.

So what is a good way to cut down on the pounds fast? I tried the Adtkins diet and lost weight, but my body hated it and I felt terrible the whole time I was on it. I was thinking of trying the South Beach diet and then after the weight loss, stick to the new clean way of eating and make that a way of life, not just a 'diet'.

Thanks for the help!

You are on the right track. I have tried so many "methods" of eating and punished my body so much in the process.

Now I do this:

*Eat Clean (from that list) 5-6x a day a portion of protein, a portion of carbs
*Lift Heavy, sweat hard during my cardio, ect.
*Drink a lot of water
*Take vitamins

And that's about it. I am much happier (and better lookin') this way than I ever was on a diet!

If you read Burn The Fat Feed The Muscle...seriously. The book has EVERY answer youre looking for. You will learn more about nutrition and training, then bouncing around from FAD diet to FAD diet. You need to stop looking for "Diets" and look for a lifestyle change.

There are no "quick" answers, it takes studing and understanding, a few quick posts on a message board will not get you to your goals. If it were that easy EVERYONE would know the right things to do.

I agree - get that E'book.

Basically, dieting is simple (summarising main points of that e-book):

- 5-6 meals
- protein in each meal, pretty constant
- a small calorie deficit, 10-20%
- weights training (employing compound exercises to burn more calories) and cardio to create calorie deficit, not low calorie diet.
- consume at least 30% of cals P, 15% F, although many prefer to start at 40P,40C,20F.
- consume carbs predominantly earlier in the day and after weights; eat your fats in meals lower in carbs.

Tom is not a fan of super low carb dieting or super high fat diets, and also, doesn't think that HIIT is necessarily better than conventional cardio, providing the conventional cardio is still high intensity (e.g., 40 min run at your fastest pace)

Thanks, that is a great starting point for me to begin research (I was also wondering why I couldn't find the book on Amazon...b/c it's an e-book).

I know it is hard work and dedication and I am physically ready to begin, that is why I posted here as you guys all are a wealth of knowledge.

Thanks for the info!
