Deca and Blood Sludging (Clotting)

I have access to depo tesosterone, deca, winstrol, and Oxandrin...all legally (I'm HIV POZ).

I did one 12 week cycle with the testosterone and the deca...building up to 400mg of testosterone and 400 of deca by week 6 and then gradually going down to week 12. I gained almost 30 pounds of muscle...no gain in waist measurement.

The drawback was that I got a blood clot (I've learned from the deca which raises your hematocrit) and was hospitalized.

I would love to get some more of the lean tissue but am afraid of the clots. I've been told that I should have my hematocrit tested and have a phlebotomy when necessary; but what if I wait a day to long to have the hematocrit tested and get another clot?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Doesnt your doctor monitor you and order up these test? God! I would hope so. Sounds like a scary deal. I heard aspirin thins blood, I could be wrong or it could be an old wives tale, but I take it daily. That sucks that happened to you. How did it all come about. I do worry about that happening to me too. My doctor watches all the signs and would let me know of any hidden dangers.

Deca raises your hematocrit level...which I believe is the actual number of red blood cells per unit of blood. When the hematocrit goes above 49 or so people are often give phlebotomies...draining a pint of blood to reduce the number of cells in the body.

The problem comes in in that a large number of cells can become "sludged," squeezed too tightly in a small vein and stop the blood flow in that vein. The chances seem to be between getting your hematocrit level done before clotting can begin.

I have to add that I've been informed that most people do not clot with deca...but I did twice.

with an Rx there is no reason to avoid blood work every 30-45 days.

in addition to a baby-aspirin (81 mg) per day, vitamin E 800-1000 mg and gingko 300-600 mg per day helps

get also hemoglobin and ferritin levels tested and monitor total iron storage.

eat lots of cold water fish, the more fatty, the better. take 6 - 10 tbs of cold pressed flax seed oil per day. eat a ton of raw organic veggies and 4-5 servings of fresh fruit. the more you eat non-human-made-foods, the better your blood work

Tex..the Deca did not "cause" the clot. It exacerbated a pre-existing condition. Millgirl is right when she said that you need to be checked before you use.

Just my guess...but I bet you already had some plaque build up and that your BP was already a little elevated. The Deca just made your blood thicker..which made it harder to pump...which in turn broke off a piece of plaque forming the clot.

I was (and am under tight medical supervision). My primary physician is an hematologist and I see both a HIV specialist, who is also on the board of PoWeR, and, an endocrinologist.

My BP is usually around 120/70. I have had several doplers done of my veins and they came up with nothing but the clots themselves...no plaque.

All of the above doctors agree that it is a matter of getting blood drained ( a "phlebotomy"...which I've heard that many big gainers do on a regular basis) BEFORE a clot can form.

The problem is apparent...I can't get an hematocrit test daily.

I do agree that there must be some complicating factors...but they have yet to be discovered.

The verdict is in...went to see the doctor today and he said, unequivically, steroids can cause clotting in some persons and the reasons are unknown (actually he said, it's just your makeup").

Now if you'd like to check his credentials, go to http://www.medibolics.com/nelson/index.htm, and look for the list of doctors who are recommended in New York City and at the top you will find Dr. Douglas Dieterich.

To add injury to insult, I have several new clots in my right arm.

PS I neglected to say that I am hypogonadic...I don't produce enough testosterone on my own. If I stop the androgens, I become seriously anemic, loose weight and become depressed.

Staying on them results in my current state of being hypercoagulative...I can now get clots (thromboses) anywhere...which can become coronary or pulmonary thromboses.

I sure wish I could find someone who has information as to why I coagulate.
