Cottage Cheese and My Skin

Hi All,

Have been eating alot of cottage cheese these past few weeks and I don't think its any co-incidence that I have come out in hives/rash since. I have hives on my stomach, chest and upper back. Is there a link between excessive cottage cheese (200g per day) and what has now become a major irritant? This has never happened before and I never suffered from skin problems.

Definitely lactose intolerance

yep

Like many non-caucasians BTW

Lactose intolerance. Good point and will do so more analysis of my diet. Looks like there's no getting away from that damn tuna again. I thought I could skip Tuna in favour of cottage cheese, but looks like I can't!

If you are experiencing a rash or 'hives' on your body then it is not Lactose Intolerence which is the cause as the symptoms are more to do with the Gastrointestinal Tract (ie:abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, gas/wind, cramps). You will likely have a food allergy. In this case, probably an allergy to either milk protein or an additive in the cottage cheese (if we are assuming that it is the source). Eventhough you have had no problems in the past, allergies can come on suddenly at anytime in your life. You can reduce or, in some cases, eliminate the allergic affects of milk protein by using products such as Spectrumzyme or Digestaid.

Since you have been consuming cottage cheese in large amounts, you may just have exceeded your threshold. Discontinue using it for the next week and then slowly reintroduce it back into your diet and note the effects. If the rash returns then atleast you will know the source.

Thats a very good post. I have decided that I will do that. I'll stop the cottage cheese for a few weeks, then I'll buy a different brand and take note of the effects. Many thanks guys for the outstanding help in your replies.
