Confusion...What is more important for lean muscle growth? Protein or total calories?

Swollen

I'm asking because I am going to do a cycle shortly (getting "the shit" tomarrow) and I will be consuming 1.5-2 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight. Thing is, much of it is Whey shakes (170g/9 shakes). So I'll have plenty of protein, but fewer calories. Will muscle gains be minimal? Any suggestions or opinions on the topic would be great.

i would have at least 4500 calories, and 2 grams of protein per body wait, and if you ask me, both are just as important, but I would make sure I'm getting the protein, just my opinion.

what gear are you taking?...im taking winny, and bro on any cycle..its always important to keep protein intake high...if your trying to rip, calories should be cut down, but protein always high

I know protein should be high. I just wasn't sure that, if protein is high will gains still be sufficient if total calories are low.

You need more than just the protein.

You DO need carbs and fat to support the whole muscl-building process. And also to provide enough fuel for your workouts.

For fats, thats why taking something like Udo's Oil with MCTs is good. Peanut Butter and Fish help as well (to make sure you the the right KINDs of fat).

But you will need the carbs too. Trust me. Life gets damned unpleasant if you are not consuming enough. I mean, yes, you could go into a Ketogenic diet but thats a whole other discussion ....

Protein is definitely important, but calories give you the fuel to grow. Remember, less than 15% of muscle is actually protein. So out of 1kg, about 150grams of it is protein, and the rest is water and fluids.

Where does everyone get this 2g of protien per "LB" of body weight? The recommended is 2g per kilogram of bodyweight which is about 1g of protein per lb of body weight. A Kilogram=2.2 lbs
So my question is, is the recommended protien intake double on roids?......BASSET
