Competed in my First meet today......

It was a WNPF meet in Montgomery Alabama.. I did bench only this meet while I'm waiting on gettin my suit in plus taking care of some lower back issues...

Well to begin with I weighed in at 229 about 10 pounds less than expected... The thing is, everyone there was about 10 pounds under their expected weight, so clearly the scales were off... But anyways.........

Being my first meet I opened light at 405 just to make sure I got on the board.. Well being inexperienced I racked the lift before the rack command after what was a very very easy lift.. I was just wearing a standard Inzer Blast shirt for the opener... So for my second attempt I took 405 again and had no trouble at all.... I had origionally planned on going 405-475-500 with my second 2 attempts being in my denim shirt.....

Well I ended up taking my 3rd attempt at 475 which it took me about 10 full seconds to get the weight to touch, but to make it touch I ended up bringing the bar down at about belly button level and just couldn't press it from that position..........

But oh well, I had only used a bench shirt for the first time this past monday so I knew it would be iffy in the denim..... In hindsite I probably should have stayed with the Inzer poly and went 405, 425, 450 or so but I had a game plan and wanted to stick to it... But the end result was still good despite my disappointment as I still took first place in the Junior 242 class..

More than anything this meet was a valuable learning experience for me... And beginning next week I will be in my denim shirt every single week per Metal Militia style training in preparations for a WABDL meet on May 24..

Sounds like you learnt a lot from doing that meet........its a shame that you didnt have more time to practice in your shirts. I guess you wont make that mistake again :)

Congrats on getting the first one under your belt. I can speak from experience, you learn more from your mistakes at a first meet than you would if everything went according to plan.

Thats very true Hannibal.. I did learn alot from my first meet.. I know that my biggest mistake so to speak was not knowing my shirt.. But I just couldn't pass up a meet this close to home just because of lack of work in my shirt... And I will definitly never go into another meet without knowing my equipment.. I will begin Metal Militia training this week so I will be in my shirt every single week... However I will be alternating the MM Raw day for my Westside DE Day every other week just to keep my speed up... And of course my Squat and Dead training will remain Westside...

JDarty, I did the same thing at both meets I've done thus far. I forgot to wait for commands, and completely bombed my bench at the first meet, and screwed up my 2nd attempt at the next one.

Congrats on the first meet!

Thanks for the Kind words guys... On my second attempt with 405 I just kept repeating to myself "wait for rack command" over and over... I was probably so focused on that, that I was lucky to wait for the Press command LOL.... I really can't wait for my next meet...

LOL, that's kinda what I did. Got so wrapped up in waiting for the press command that I forgot to wait for the rack command.

I need to concentrate on that in the gym too, because I have a tendency to just throw the bar back on the hooks at the top of the press.
