Cleans?

Does anyone here do any cleans?

I have read almost an entire page of thread topics and not one mentions cleans...

Aren't they important for total body power and explosion...
Is it possible they can help other lifts?

Just seems like they are being neglected here after all if powerlifting is about power...than cleans i think are a good representation...

Unfortunately, i can't do them right now. Tore my ACL. Had surgery...Have a long wait to go. But if i could do them iwould.

I am just curious as to why no one mentions them..

I don't do them anymore for a big reason -- they did nothing for my powerlifts. I think the reason that is, is because it's hard to get enuf weight on the bar to do anything with them. If I spent the time working up to a bigger weight than I might as well be olympic lifting. One other point, cleans are a very technical lift and extremely hard to teach someone to do correctly.

I do them on and off, they do help me strengthen my shoulders and traps(the most) and build up the hams and calfs well.
They are a better exercise for an athelete taht trains for speed.

Still they can be helpfull if you use correct form.
If you are constantly upping the weight on them, then stick to them.

Thats what i tended to do with them, i used to do them and when i stopped adding weight to them i dropped them for a while.

Then i came back to them but have not done them for a while.

I do them to help with my tire flip.

Yeah they are pretty big in football...i was just wondering if they had any other benefits besides speed and explosion...

I do them sometimes.

When i started this whole strength game i got confussed as to which sport i would lift in. so i got professional training in olympic lifting to give it a try(and im not talking a personal trainer or football coach here......)

cleans really helped me with the bottom portion of the squat

i dont want to sound lazy but......boxs squats are easier and they help a lot more for me.

I have read a few articles which recomend olympic lifts.......even for powerlifting.........but i think the program was written by bill starr......isnt he a football coach?

they made us do them in high school for wrestling..... but i hurt my wrist doing them my senior year....... i graduated....... i dont do them any more.......

the closest i may come is doing upright rows with a wide grip and cleaning it up like a high pull, except the bar starts from my waist

cleans...

Cleans are a great total body exercise. They work multiple muscle groups ( quads, hams, glutes, erector spinae, lats, traps ) as well as working multiple jionts at a increased range of motion.

They are difficult to perform, but can be mastered with time.

The best thing to do when performing cleans, is to first concentrate on your form rather than weight lifted. Once you get the tecnique down... the weight lifted will begin to follow.

They are a "power" exercise.

Cleans will have very little to do with increases in muscle hypertrophy.

Best of Luck.

so you think a powerlifter should avoid them?

I encorporate cleans into my power training. Though they aren't a power lift they are an olympic lift. Haven't seen any gains in squats or deads from them but I am training more for strongman comps and think the explosiveness will be helpful.
