Hi I have a question about protein shakes. Let's say after a workout I want to eat chicken breast or turkey slices can I do so Instead of protin shakes? because I tend to prefer these.. in other words, can I aachieve the same goals without any shakes and instead have a lot of solid protein ( i eat about 150-250g protein everyday, and I weight 147lbs)

if you want top notch results, you'd drink a protein shake and some form of liquid carb source RIGHT after working out, to begin repairing the muscle you just ripped.
Yeah, eat chicken an hour or so after working out... but the pwo shake is pretty clutch.
I've gained pretty nice size and strength over my friend that DOESN'T drink a pwo shake, but has the same diet as me virtually.

I see.Can you give me some info, practically everything I need to know..

when to take it
what to buy (the best one)
how much does it serve me
how much do I take
with what do I mix it? (skimmed milk??)

proteinfactory.com > formulas > big blast
its a good protein combo... it's expensive, but well worth it.
get tropical orange with a sweetener

take 30-38 grams of protein... mix it with water for post work out and drink with a gatorade

Im just shootin you this info in the dark
I have no idea how old you are, how much you weigh, your goals or anything.
but this stuff right here is bomb for anyone/age/shape/size

You don't have to neccessarily take a shake after your workout.

Lately i've been saving money on powder, and using 2 cans of tuna and a glass of milk for my "post-workout shake" if you will. You still get around 40g of protein. Having a banana with it aswell is great.

Have i noticed a difference since changing it up? No, not really. I'll follow that up with a bigger meal obviously say about 45mins later, like you would if you had a shake post-workout.

Post workout nutrition is really important, and if your goal is to gain more muscle, you will start paying religious attention to this.

I do think a meal immediately after training is good, however, this is one place in the diet that I think a protein shake is a good idea.

You will want a whey isolate, the protein is broken into smaller bits, so it will be digested faster, and it also elicits more of an insulin response (which you want post training).

I am not a fan of gatorade or those sports drinks, I like to use bee pollen, honey, rice cakes, simple carbs like this post workout. Milk is actually a good source of simple carbs, so whey in semi-skimmed or skimmed milk is ok as well.

You may also want to pay attention to your pre-work out as well, again, some protein and carbs about an hour before.

the point is you need something immediately after ripping all your muscles to stop the muscle catabolism and switch to anabolism... shake is so convenient for taking to the gym. should follow this up with a solid food meal 1 hour later or asap.

Exactly, great post.

This is one of my fav ways to do it, I am experimenting with maxing out my natural hormonal response.

Immediately after training - whey isolate (it will still elicit an insulin response so that the protein/amino acids I take in get shuttled into the muscle)

I walk home, do some grocery shopping on the way, so by the time I am home, 30 min later, I have some simple carbs, like honey on a ryvita/rice cake.

I do this as it is thought that more GH is released by certain amino acids after training, as long as the insulin response is not huge, and 30 min should be enough.

30 min later I have a proper meal.

Works for me.

:)

Honey? - I'm suprised Tat - isn't that mostly fructose (part fructose and sucrose)
