Im not trying to bash your diet but just from a "nutritional" heathy point of view, ketosis is SOOOOOO extremely bad and harmful to your body. Just wanted to state that in case you didnt know :worried:

Also, once you start spilling ketones, your breath will be acetone (yes, nail polish remover) breath.... and once you are done with it, make sure to follow up with a liver detox ... and watch those kidneys. I would recommend you do some blood work as well. Im in school for dietetics and they bombard me with this info every dayyyyyy lol

This topic will be debated forever but you bring up a good point. Most texts will tell about the dangers of vitamins, ketogenic diets and the dangers of consuming more than 40 grams of protein per day. In the real world low carb diets have been around for hundreds of years and were a staple in a bodybuilders' diet back in the 60's and 70's. Most of those guys are still doing fine today.

Any type of CKD is usually a short term diet anyways so there's really not much to be concerned about as long as you limit the duration of your cycle. Epileptic patients have been following low carb high fat diets for years on end with no health problems whatsoever. Ketosis will not cause ketoacidosis in non-diabetics. And as long as you have a large storage of fat, your brain will not starve for energy. I've seen a bunch of people over the years decrease their cholesterol levels and end up looking a lot better after switching over to reduced carb diets as well. Ketosis is certainly not a prerequisite for fat loss but it does help for some people. This diet is not for everyone and I would recommend people to experiment on themselves to see what works and what doesn't work.

And my breath is minty fresh all day long...:)

Oh I AGREE with you... Im on low carb right now but not in ketosis. I Was just putting it out there as to how it can be a health hazzard b/c I havent seen it posted ... overall...if in short periods of time... it aint 'too bad'. I was just sayin... ya know ;) AND certain things work for certain people....

----My professor cannon express it enough every day... lol.. could be b/c he knows Im competing in 3 weeks so he wants to 'mention' it to make sure its heard ...

------JUst wondering...how long have you been on this diet? How are you feeling .. like your mood, energy, focus? Im really curious how it's affecting you so far. ALso, are you using any supps right now (multi,Ca,fat burners.... drugs?????)
I dont think I would ever try it but Im still curious :)

Hey Aries,

I'm not on a CKD right now, but I have done them in the past with good results. It must be my body because anytime that I've ever switched over to a high carb, moderate protein, low fat diet, my mood "drifts" all day long and I get drowsy all throughout the day. Less carbs, more fat and more protein ironically I function just fine and get great workouts in. My diet right now is mostly all protein and healthy fats with some yams and oats thrown in there as well.

I'd say after a few weeks into a ketogenic diet, I was fully adapted and never got any sugar cravings or bad moods. My strength in the gym stayed the same throughout the week and on my Saturday refeed my muscles looked more "full" overall. I did take a bunch of vitamins: B complex, C, D, A, E, Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc no thermogenics. The limited food choices get boring pretty fast, which I suspect is the reason most people don't stay on the diet for an extended period of time. (Including myself) I tried getting a couple friends to use it and it lasted all of 3 days. LOL. If you can stand it, I personally love it for fat loss, especially if your body tends to store fat easily. :)

I am on my 4th day and ketones are present by the way the keto stix are turning color.I definetly feel fine and my breath is not like acetone lol.I have droped 6 pounds in 4 days, thats 6 pounds on a person that is at 10% or bellow bodyfat.I imagine most of it is water weight because I dont see how I could have lost that much fat in 4 days.I imagine it is water from me eating no carbs.I felt kinda weak yesterday but it seems that when I got into ketosis today I had a burst of energy.

Welcome to the dark path of keto.... you energy will start to decrease. Words of advice, stay away from the carb up the first week, after like 14-20days then i'd go carb up, honestly it gives this diet a chance to kick in and work. I am taking an ECA with it and it really helps those cravings and with a bit added energy. My lifts strength wise struggled the first few days (and again today going back into keto) but I think i've found how my body works and reacts to this diet now so i'll be alright. I NEED TO MENTION THIS THOUGH, beware the high sat fats brotha. To easy is it to add mayo/creamcheese/CHEESE etc to everything, remember gotta also stay calorie deficient too!!! (really cant stress that enough, track yourself on fitday). Some say dont do cardio on this diet or keep it limited, i say take advantage and hit that am or post lifting cardio!!! The only time i have whey is also after lifting... what else did i want to mention, yeah that first 6lbs is water. I messed up my first carb up bad, i swear wait and follow it to a tee. I kinda think wether one is in keto or not, a low carb diet is turely the best way to eliminate bodyfat for people like us (i'm a true endomorph). Whenever the temps get to much i go for a walk, have a dip of chewing tobacco, flip through pics of miami to remind myself of my upcoming june vacation etc But yeah, there are a lot of advantages to staying in keto for 2 weeks before any carb up. Really gets your body on track to make the changes, allows you to have a good mood, feel normal, energised, PRODUCTIVE, etc... keep us posted bro. I"ll do an update thread in 2 weeks myself with some pics:)

Thanx for the heads up bro, great info and advice,I was thinking of staying in Ketosis for about 21 days before a carb up.

After about 4 days of eating as close to 0 carbs i feel great, energized, and i have more endurance. I do taste the acetone when im endurance training when i rock climb. I cycled with my friend who trains for triathalons for the first time, and on my first day i kept up with him for 16 miles straight @ 17mph average, he went 4 more than i did, but this is what he practices. He was surprised i had that much endurance for a beginner, he didn't know about me eating no carbs though, he would've flipped since thats all he eats.

Uhmm... this is such an easy diet for me that i barely calculate anything in terms of calories I eat, but i'd say usually around 1,200 - 1,800 per day, approx.

Oh, also, i supplement with creatine ethyl-ester hcl, and it seems to be working because usually i could do 15 pull ups in a row (hands 6 inches past shoulder width), and yesterday i did 13 with a 25lb weighted vest, and im climbing with that vest for training, and climbing stuff that i would normally find dificult, with ease with the 25 lb vest on. Its amazing, don't know if its a placebo, just pure will power over coming mental blocks, but the stuff that i climbed with a vest on is stuff people aspire towards reaching because thats how dificult it is. So when they see me climb this route that they can only do half way before falling, and i come along and do the entire thing with 25 lbs extra weight, their jaws drop, i get flooded with complacency.

I have excellent focus, energy, and I'm always in a great mood. I also supplement with sesamax, glucorell, CEE, multi vitamins, vitamin E, Folic acid, and FIBER (i also take here and there ECA stack from time to time). Before every meal, an hour ahead, i swallow 2 table spoons of fiber. I usually go to the bathroom 2x a day. Works great for me.

I've compared pics, and i barely lost any muscle at all, only in my legs cuz im not really working them out, but i've maintained a huge back, shoulders, and abs. And my forearms have gotten HUGE (im talking close to popeye) with very profound visible vascularity.

I don't tell anyone else about this at rock climbing cuz its a competitive sport, and i compete against these people, so i have this HUGE edge over them, and it leaves them guessing and wondering how im progressing so fast and becoming so much better than they are.

The majority are just no-dieting, no-studying-body-physiology hippy vegetarians, so they're climbing abilities come from just being extremely close to sick skinny. At 158 lbs, im the one of the biggest guys there, they consider me fat lol I basically want to get down to 145, then start eating carbs, but no grains, so that'd put me at 150 with the water retention.

ya, some metamucil or physsilum husk (my spelling is great!) is an added bonus, though i mean, once you're in keto hitting the spinach broccorli and iceberg lettuce seems to give me the roughage i need.
