Buffalo meat

I haven't seen any posts on buffalo meat, so here's one -

I'd read about it being low fat and high protein, but had never tried it. My wife purchased a package of it from an organic food store. There were 2 6 oz steaks in the package. Here's the stats on one 6 oz. steak -
180 calories - 20 from fat
total fat - 2.5 g
saturated fat - 0.5 g
cholesterol - 65 mg
sodium - 75 mg
total carbs - 0 g
dietary fiber - 0 g
sugar - 0 g
Protein - 40 g (that's right, 40 grams of protein)

Low fat and high protein and they tasted great. Buffalo can be subbed for any meat. It cooks rather quickly and is best eaten rare to medium, otherwise it dries out too much. I bbq'd it with some cajun spice and minced garlic and they were cooked to med. rare. Excellent flavor. The texture was slightly different than beef and the flavor was only slightly different than beef. With some potatos, steamed asparagus and fruit, this was a killer meal. The 2 pack cost $8, so it's a bit expensive, but I thought it was well worth it.
There's several websites that sell buffalo meat, this was from

I don't think it tastes like venison. It's very good I had tons of it when I was in Montana last year.

Buffalo meat is great. Like you posted a very low fat and very high protien meat.
have you tried Ostrich yet....same thing higher protein....

both ostrich and buffalo is great for low fat high protein... the only thing is when your eating low fat red meats they're kinda tough and chewy but otherwise they taste just as good as any beef etc.

I buy buffalo burgers at Trader Joe's -- good stuff I agree!!

They are easy to overcook which dries them out tho.....but a nice change!!

buffalo jerky is soo good

I have heard not to cook buffalo past medium, because it will make it very tough. I like the steaks, and using ground buffalo for chili in the colder months. I need to get some ostrich to try.

ok what about the eggs , how are they in protine ?there are pleanty of farms around where i live back home i am sure they wont miss a few ..

I get mine at the regular grocery store, 2 6 oz steaks for $6.99.

THey now replace my 2/week steak night because they are much lower in fat and have so much protein.

Here's a great marinade:

1/4 c wine vinegar
1/8 c olive oil
cracked pepper
dried rosemary
1 clove mashed garlic

Marinate at least 1 hour, grill medium rare....yum :chomp:
