BICEPS-The most underrated muscle in Powerlifting!! L@@K!

Thanks everyone for posting replies to my original post. Biceps DO WORK in the bench in lowering the bar.

On DE BP day, what the fuck do you think pulls the bar down to your lower chest?? It's the back and biceps. BICEPS help pull the bar down to the chest quickly. Biceps must be strong for this. Everyone says that lats are the second most important muscles for benching and don't think for a second that the biceps dont greatly assist the lats in the lowering phase!!

Has anyone ever noticed that on max effort benching, people pull the bar down to the chest at different speeds? The biceps must be strong to pull the bar down quickly to lower the time under tension of the rep. The stronger biceps will pull the bar down faster!!

1-dawg, I never said that biceps were the most important muscle for benching, go back and read my original post. You have a great bench press and perhaps you could increase it 20 pounds or more with hard work to those emaciated biceps.

Folks, don't underestimate the importance of the biceps in pulling the weight down quickly on DE day because this will allow one to build great speed and ferocity on DE days.

Its time to see the preacher!!! GO DO 10 sets of PREACHER CURLS FOR ALL!!

B fold- Your are right. It is tough to come up with new stuff to write about. Hey, in case I forget, kick ass in Boston. Tell Chad Coy I said hi. He helped me out a great deal for my strongman contest.

Yes, I have torn a bicep. But I tore it at the delt origin. It was due to dehydration.

Mel-While you were doing your preacher curls today, the men were doing the their box squats. When you out bench one of our guys(besides our 148) you can tell people how to bench. The Russians had a rule in the training facilities. Until you totaled "master of sport" or the equivalent of a powerlifting ELITE, you couldn't give training advise. We had the same rule at Westside. You may want to consider that. Also, you may not want to run your mouth to 1-dawg. He comes down to garage and you will get to meet him. He will also kick the shit out of you if you keep being a wise ass.

I will use two lifters to illustrate the importance of biceps. Lou Simmons has benched 600 and Jeff "Gritter" Adams has benched 585. The funny thing is neither of them have any biceps. Literally, they have no biceps. The have both torn both biceps off and never ogt them re-attched.

Thanks man...if I make it past the pre-lims and into the finals...I'll be competing on the same day as Coy...otherwise I'll be watching from the bleachers. Thanks

I think that we are all agreeing here to a point. The bi's are important to a very small degree.

Flapwrlftr -- you mean this guy trains in your garage?? Oh man, this is too good. And I get to whip his ass on the box?? If there's anything else left after that, then I'll drag his sorry butt out to the street and see if he can drag a sled. I will be down at the earliest convenience. Maybe he can show me how much his bicep aids to his total?? Or does he have a total yet??

I actually do get a lot of bic work each week.

Sunday: pulling or ME exercise, tire flip. arm over arm pull, sled pull, heavy farmers

Monday: log clean and press, hammer curls with the 20's, chins, rows

Wednesday: dynamic box squat, very light rows

Friday: light curls after rows and ME upper, chins, rows, etc...

They get worked...but not like they used to when I was a bodybuilder. But wait...my bi's are bigger now...wait...that makes no sense:)

Do what works for you and makes you happy..

Once again 'the few experts' on this board here play their immature game of 'if you are not lifting what I am then you are nothing'. 'And if you say this and that then you ain't shit!' Guys... grow up and stop treating everyone else on this board who isn't one of your lifting pals like they are clueless. Many strong guys out there lift a lot of weight, but that doesn't mean they are resident experts. Do you think Mike Tyson could knock out his ex-trainer Bill Cayton? Of course he could! Who is the expert though in that sport as far as 'knowledge'? Can Louie Simmons out lift Garry Frank? HELL NO!!! Then according to your logic who is the expert? Must be the one who lifts the most! No need for a lifter like Garry Frank to have a coach then is there??? He is the strongest, so no one can tell him shit!

Grow up 'boys' and start giving other people's opinions some respect. Cytomel was trying to stir up some debate. Some of you responded like little babies! Some of you guys are great lifters. Why don't you 'lead' with your actions and your 'wisdom' and not immature BULLSHIT?!?! Maybe lifting is the only thing some of you guys are even remotely accomplished at. Maybe you hide behind it to cover other short-comings or insecurities?

Bottomline... cut the BS and help each other out. Some of you complain about other people being negative and then this thread starts and we all get to see some people's true colors.

Flex -- do me a favor, don't respond to anything I type. Flapwrlftr is a god friend of mine and cytomel trains with him, from what I understand. It's friendly trash talk between the 3 of us. Anyone with a peanut for a brain coudl see that. Actually, I thought the thread was humorous from the start and I am sure that is how it was intended but we got off that track. You are one of the most negative people around.

Of course louie cannot outlift garry -- no one can right now, period. However that doesn't mean that he couldn't learn a few things from the man. Garry has flaws just like any other lifter -- good thing for him that one of them isn;t being strong. He is the strongest lifter out there right now.

Bill cayton was Mike Tysons original manager not training partner. He is 70 plus yrs old! Bob , Jay everyone who has seen this post can see its friendly trash talk, Flex is a ediot! If he knew you guys he would know your hard on each other! Hell Just take Eric Ma---! Hehe! Of heard ya'll with him. Didnt ya'll shave his head caues he missed a lift he bet you he would get? Case in point. Its all in fun Flex YOU lighten up.

Ahh yes -- baldylocks eric. Actually he benched at a meet this weekend. He did the best rep of his entire lifting career on his opener, then threw out eveything he learned on his last 2 attempts. I am not joking though, that ws the best rep I have ever seen him do.

Yes we are very hard on each other, but we are all friends and even better friends come meet day. Unfortunatly I don't live down there sp I can't train with them very often. Maybe in a year or so I will get to move further south.
