Just started squatting again after a 6 month layoff due to a recurring back injury and got 240 for 5 clean reps.

My heaviest was 270 for 5 when i was 18 @ 140 pounds

Since hurting my back when i was 20 i have never gone over 225.....my back just couldn't take it.

Don't know if i'll keep going though.......i'm scared of blowing my back out again.

Congrats VG! :D

What are you planning to do to make your lower back stronger so you can keep progressing?

Stop squatting:D j/k

I've always deadlifted Spatt's and no problem ever with my back......as soon as i squat.....SNAP.

I don't know......i've thrown in good mornings lately, but again i feel a mild strain like it's about to go whenever i increase the weight.

Almost sounds like the same thing I'm having where the eccentric strength is lacking. Do you do RDLs?

Yes.

As soon as i try to squat a weight in which i won't get 5 clean reps, i feel an ugly sensation in my right lower lumbar.

Sometimes it's even snapped on my warm up set.

I don't know all the details of your injury, but what was the diagnosis? Just a strain? Did anything break?

I'm asking because I used to have the same problem (still do if I don't work to correct it), and mine's from one side of my pelvis being slightly tilted from carrying a heavy baby. Is there any chance that the impact may have done something like this that is so slight but can impact your nerves and muscles in a big way?

I had tests and the like. The specialist said i have an 'imbalance' in my right lower lumbar.....muscular i think.....so long ago now.

No breaks or anything. When it goes, it renders me legless for at least 1 week and the it takes a few weeks of inactivity before it gets back to normal.

That's sounds so much like what I have. The slight tilt, which could only be detected by MRI, was JUST enough to irritate my sciatic nerve and other surrounding nerves, which inflames the muscle, which places even MORE pressure on the nerves, and the muscles will get tight and irritated enough that they even pull on the bone...it will start popping in and out of socket, and the muscles just start catching. I'll bend over to throw something away, or shift to the side to answer the phone and it just freezes up and then gives out. Takes my breath away a little. I have to stay on it DAILY or I would be like this all the time.
