Army Physical Fitness Test - Took One Today

Awesome scores Longhorn! It has to make you feel good when you can smoke the youngsters. ;)

I kind of understand why they dropped the standards (but I don't agree with it)... so they wouldn't lose soldiers to bad PT scores. Soldiers that they can't afford to lose right now. Granted, if you're going to be a soldier you should be able to keep up regardless. They were just starting to drop the standards for women when I was discharged. I had suggested to my CO that the PT test should be a confidence/obstacle course with a pack on your back. He didn't like that idea... he'd have to get his shiney boots all dirty.

That is the problem with officers! LOL

they could have lowered the minimum standards on the pt test without affecting the max though!!!!!!!!

The standards were only lowered for the youngest soldiers (18-21). This includes few officers or SSGs and above, whose standard was RAISED. The reason is that the couch potatoes coming in were flunking, and it takes a while for them to acheive and maintain the standard.

I always wanted to know what the army PFT consisted of. Can you rest if you get tired in the two minutes? or do you have to stay up? That is a good score for an older guy (old man by military standards). A lot of the SNCOs in my unit hardly get above a 200. (a 1st class is 225, max of 300). We do pullups for as long as we want(up to 20 pullups for 100), just have to stay on the bar. crunches for 2 minutes up to 100(100 points). For the run it is 3 miles and a perfect 100 is 18 minutes.

you can rest in the modified pushup position, but you cant have your knees touch the ground, nor can you lift a foot or a hand off of the ground.

you can also rest while doing situps, but it must be in the upright situp position, not your back lying on the ground.

im def. interested in the military style training using the playground exercises: pushups, situps, chinups etc.

besides the SEALs Warning Order does anyone have a military style routine?

when i was in 3ID it was a killer.... and i was on the aviation side of the house... whoa... 18th Airborner Corp standard all the way... and since we had 1/75th right there we always had to try and out do them... sure was some fun shit though... its always fun gettin the wimp smoked out of you

the airforce has bitch pt for those on active duty. my ex is in the air force, and all she has to do is 'self pt', which consists of going to the gym, playing basketball, etc.

some of my friends with the 3rd ID have to do pt in MOPP 4.

My score today: 66 pushus, 71 situps and a SLOW 17:30 2 mile. My score: 270.

I'm can't complain, my next test I'll try to get down to 210 and drop my run time by 1 minute.
I had to take one today too bro, it sucked!!! LOL

I didnt plan on doing good on the run, and kind of being a rebel I told everyone that I was just going to do 50 PU, 60 SU then a 16 flat on the two miler!! people laughed cuz they know how much I work out, and was like "why dont you do good" cuz I dont fuckin care!!! LOL
but anyways, when I got up there, my heart was racing, cuz I was so flippin pissed I was up at 6 am to take a pathetic pt test that when I did my push ups, I decided to go untill I got a "little" tired
I ended up with 70 at 50 seconds into the test, and got up, just to piss them off!! LOL
then becuase I did 70 push ups, I decided to match it with 70 situps! then got up (that took me 1 min 30 secs, cuz I dont train for amount of situps anymore, but I still always max them, but it takes me the hole 2 mins if I do)
then it came to the run, I decided that I was still just going to do my 2min per lap pace, well I forgot that on this track there is only 7 laps you have to do! so at a 2 min per lap pace, I came in at 13:48!!!!!
I havnt ran for a year, and only been doing cardio for about 3 weeks and never more than 20 mins!! and I fuckin ran a sub14 2 miler!!! hahahahahaha
I love proving that I dont have to run to pass my test, let alone do good!
cuz run sucks, and my knees are killing me!!!!!
eliptical machine I love you!!!!!!!!!

peace

You can't really recover on pullups while still hanging from the bar. My best was a 292 (perfect crunch and PU, not perfect run).

If you have extremely strong forearms you can recover so long as you didnt burn urself out. But its kinda rare to have these kind of forearms. Its not here I am worried still... its that damn run, still come in 2 minutes after 18 minutes.

Two years and 5lbs later and my PT score remains about the same. Today I did 67 pushups, 72 situps and ran the two mile in 17:22 (damn slow).

For what it's worth I really enjoyed the run, we ran on the George Washington Parkway with a full view of the monuments and planes from Reagan Airport flying overhead.
