Anavar & Bench Press

British Bulldog

New member
Guys I have been on Anavar for 3 weeks now at 30mg/day. I am making great strength gains in every lift except the bench press. I am training the chest hard without over training it.

Why do you think this is? Could it be because of my shoulders being over proportionally stronger compared to the chest? For example my Bench Press is 225lbs x 4, while the Behind Neck Shoulder Press is 205lbs x 3.

Thanks in advance.

anavar gives me great strength gains as well.
the stats for you bench and shoulder press do seem a little disproportionate.
front delts should help with your bench especially if they are that strong so maybe it is in the technique. you may be utilizing too much front delts when benching. i would cut out the flat bench for a while and do strict d-bell presses, preferable inclines and declines and really concentrate on isolating the pecs. it's really tough to not utilize the front delts with BB flats so you may be inadvertanly relying on them for bench. it's also real tough to "unlearn" this if that is where your problem lies but if it is then i think the dbell work will help. i really don't know but it's just a guess.

I think its your shoulders. The poundages are not that far off. By what percentage on average do you think your strength has improved over all. Just curious

f4209211 - Ive probably had a 6-8% overall strength increase.

genarr3 - I know that mate. I didnt say I want a big bench. What
I am asking is why is my bench not increasing like other
exercises are.

make sure your starting with bench press in your routine, you probably are anyway. Focus on mass exercises, not all the little ones.

maybe

you have weak tris. Do close grips for a while than come back. The weight should fly up.

Also you should pull what you push, meaning if you bench 225 for 4 you should row that for 4 to.

Sorry if you took offense. I apologize.

Don't get hung up on the fact that your shoulders are getting stronger then your bench.

Bench pressing is a sport. There are vast amounts of information on how to increase your bench. I could right paragraph after paragraph on what might help. But I'll send you these links instead:
http://www.deepsquatter.com/strength/archives/ls10.htm
http://elitefts.com/documents/factor-of-time.htm
http://asp.elitefts.com/qa/default.asp?qid=360&tid=

Read them in order.

BTW - Behind the neck presses are the quickest way to end your bench pressing career. Very bad for rotor cuffs. Do them in front.

The problem with trying to bring up the tris is that is compensating for a weakness in the pecs by using a secondary muscle group. It will help but I feel like that is just masking the issue. The pecs should be the main focus if you are trying to bring them up to where you think they should be. I know guys with exceptionally strong tris and their close grip bench (tri bench) is just about equal to their flat) Not much improvement with the pecs because they are relying too much on other muscle groups to do the work which should be focused on the pecs. Ideally, if you isolate each muscle group I feel you will get the best results as far as bodybuildng goes. If you are going for weight then I have no idea. Again, my 2 cents.
