Abs and benching

calico

New member
I currently bench press on Friday. I do weighted crunches a few times a week (3x10 with a 45# dumbell on my chest on a pretty good incline), so my abs are strong (I'm female btw). I'd like to start taking an ab class one or two nights per week to really get some good definition- Do you think it would effect my benching if my abs were sore when I did them? They don't really get sore now, except for my obliques after squatting, but those ab classes are killer.
Thanks in advance,
Calico

Hey Calico/Gabrielle

I'm seriously impressed!!! You did Awesome. Absolutely AWESOME!!!!!!!

Do you have any info that I might be able to pass on to my Wife as far as diet is concerned?

Shes looking to loose about 25lbs.

And just in case I didn't make myself clear earlier in this post.

You DID AWESOME!!!!!!!

Congrats!!!!!!!

your abs should not hurt.......... but if they do you could put your feet on a higher platform than the ground....... maybe another bench or something.

but like i said you shouldnt have a problem

If you arch high enough to stretch your abs you may notice some soreness.

when I compete in a competition, I put 45lb plates under my feet so my back doesn't arch. This may not be a problem for some, but I'm a short guy, only 5'8"

Thank you! My advice to your wife is the same as you'd hear anywhere, tell her to lower her calories, but don't skip meals and drink plenty of water. Contrary to what most powerlifters do, I do cardio 7 days per week, sometimes twice a day if I'm stressed or ate too much. I know it effects my strength, but I have to do that much AND lift weights 3-4 times per week AND watch my diet to stay this weight (which is WAY more than I look). Also, tell her to cut out sugar and as much processed food as possible and have plenty of veggies.
Good luck!
