A routine I used about 10 years ago....

Found it in an Ironman mag when i was in high school. Gained a lot of strength off it and and a lot of size.

Looked like this:

M, W, F:
Bench press
Bent over rows
Squats
SLDL

T, Th:
Military Press
Barbell curls

I used to do like 3 sets per excerise to failure....6-8 reps. Got really strong with this.

Interesting break... what do you use now?

you hit alot of the core exercises ... BP, Rows, Squats, MP -- curls well... those aren't core, but fun LOL

It seems like it would work, in theory... but if I stayed on something like that too long, I would probably get worn out -- you know... over trained? I think it would be great to use for a month to 6 weeks... and then hit a more standard routine...

thanks for posting this... it is new ideas (or old ones?) like this that really help out the training boards into thinking of newer (or older :) ) ways of training

Ten years ago my lifts looked something like this:

M: preacher curls for 2 hrs

T: bench for 1 hr

W: Repeat from Monday

:) I really knew what I was doing as a teenager:o

You're right, I would make unreal strength gains using this but about 6 weeks into it I'd platea. I would switch up my routine a bit, then a month or so later hit this again and it would work great. I was natural at the time and my strength and size gains were unreal. I'd imagine a little gear on this routine would produce some nice results as would help with the recovery.

ROFL!!

My split was like this my freshman-sophomore year:

M: Chest, Bi, Tri
T: Shoulders, Back
W: Chest, Bi, Tri
Th: Shoulders, Back
F: Chest, Bi, Tri

LOL oooohhh man... I didn't do that much on legs because I was running and sprinting and doing plyos alot... but WTF... why would people put me on this type of training plan!??!

that's similar to what I have been doing for a while now:

a:
deads
dips
inc.bench
bbcurls
calf raise

b:
squats
ohp
chins
bbrow
cg bench

done M,W,F, alternating 'a' and 'b'. 1 set each 6-8.
this is by far one of the most effective routines I've used in 5 years.

I just remembered, the guy who wrote the routine wanted you to do behind-the-neck presses instead of military presses.

This program was in T-mag this week. It is very simalar to the one I am switching to this week. I am just putting shoulders with legs (my thighs are 30"... no need for much work anymore).

This looks like a great routine, would it work well while on gear?Or would it not be enough of a workout?
