A Few Questions

Hey Ive been on this site for a bit, but i took a break this summer, from this and BB in general. Anyway as college comes on im trying to get back into routine, and into a good diet. I have a few quick questions.

First, Im wondering what you guys would suggest I eat right after I get up. I only get two meals a day at a dining hall, and i use those for lunch/dinner. Breakfast wise i cant really cook anything x-( seeing as im in a dorm. As of the first week and a half ive been eating a bowl of cereal =-( which pretty much just adds carbs. Any suggestions here on what to eat would be very much appreciated. I was thinking maybe something like ANPB or a shake, but im trying to stay away from a shake as much as possible because i hate starting the day w/em.

Second, im wondering what to eat inbetween lunch/dinner. Lunch/dinner is usually a mix of lotsa tuna/deli meats (turkey, rbeef, ham) and salad. I was thinking maybe something like some nuts/ANPB, but im thinking this would be the main time for shakes? I dunno any suggestions here are also welcome. Mainly im just looking for some fillers, one inbetween lunch and dinner, and one after dinner. (I usually end up lifting arround 3:30, if that helps in anyway)

Last, Im wondering what happened to the stickey on the 5x5 training routine (i believe there was a sticky?). I dont have a set routine anymore since i really couldnt lift over the summer, and I figure now would be a good time to give the 5x5 a shot. If anybody has a link to that thread please post it in here. Also, I usually like to do cardio 4 times a week, running or riding a treadmill for about 30-40 minutes. However, I find myself playing bball for about 2.5 hours a day now, so im wondering if i can just substitute the latter for the former? I seem to remember somewhere reading that bball was not a good form of cardio because its very inconsistent, running one second, standing the next.
Sorry about the length of the post :worried: and thanks for any help. Good to be back ;)

I think people have been reluctant to respond because you haven't listed your goals. Diet recommendations will vary greatly depending on whether you want to gain 20lbs or whether you want to lose 5% bodyfat.

As a generic response: a bowl of cereal won't cut it. Try blending up raw oats with a protein shake in water first thing. I have found great results with this.

As for snacks almonds are pretty good. ANPB is good too, but from what I gather although the fats are good, the ratio is too much in favour of omega-6 over omega-3 which isn't so good.

2-3 meals a day won't cut it either. Instead of trying to snack between 2 main meals a day, try to have regular proper meals every 2-3 hours. Even in your dorm room, you could fix a tin of tuna for example.

True, I havnt listed my goals. Im trying to cut body fat, get a little leaner, while keeping as much muscle as I can. Meal wise I know 3 meals wont cut it, hence the reason I was asking for things to eat inbetween. I also know that cereal wont cut it either, hence the reason i was asked the first question. I will take your suggestion about the raw oats/shake and see how it goes. Im curious if you have any suggestions about shakes that you found good? Im quite limited in terms of selection seeing as to get anything I have to walk 45 minutes to the nearest store that sells food off campus, that being a food lion, but ill do what I can. Any other suggestions of something I could eat that doesnt require cooking (in my dorm) besides tuna? seeing as I eat tuna two times a day already =-(.

nuts
pouches of tuna
tinned chicken
deli meat - watch the sodium though

you should find all these at a convenience store right?

...fuck 2 meals a day? You livin' at a slave camp or something?
two main meals a day yeah, thats all they provide you with here. Everything else i pick up, and everything that was suggested in the above post i will pick up, even w/the little amount of money i had. I guess i just have to make it all work out some how.

im glad i had a full kitchen at school.... and now off campus ill be able to make my own food alll day long... if u have a foreman, great, if not , get one. you can cook up chicken and steak, get a hot pot if u dont have one.. u can boil water for oatmeal and such in the am. even tho you should be eating every 2-3 hours , to build/ maintain muscle and get leaner, its hard to get those in at school... i know. try some MRP's (meal replacement powders) make sure to get the ones with efa's good carbs and protein... Prolab's Lean Mass Matrix is a good example, and its got a lot of vitamins and minerals. but dont rely on those to get you through the day.

damnit458,
Meal 1: 1 to 1.5 cups oatmeal with 1.5 scoops whey protein, splenda or equal, and ground cinnamon (throw in some fruit if you are bulking)

Meal 3: 2 Scoops whey with 2 tbsp ANPB

Late Night Meal: Salad with Tuna, Nuts and Olive Oil

Just some ideas
