So basically I can't get anyone to show me how to pose. I've asked but if I had to guess nobody wants to show their competition how to do well. Either that or they just don't like me.

What did you guys do to learn this? I'm worried that when the judges bark out the mandatory poses or have us all strike poses in unison I'll be the only one who is like, "What the shit are they talking about? Do you know?"

Did any of you just make up a posing routine on your own and hope for the best? Thanks to anyone who will take the time to give me some advice, even if it's like a link to a Schwarzenneger posing routine or something.

Contact your district chairman and ask him/her if they could refer you to someone.
In New England there are clinics that are held once in a while.

get a video from the Perfect Posing Series or even more spendy from Russ Testo, shows you all you need. Not knowing how to pose is not a reason for bailing on a show, teh internetz are a great resource. Hek you could even search youtube for bb and find some, male/female, makes no difference.

have you ever been to a show? greatest place to learn what to do and what NOT to do!
I learned the mandatory's and put my own flair on them by looking the mirror and seeing what worked best. Slight tweaks here and there. ie Front double biceps pose I turn my left leg slightly and hold my elbows higher than most to make my pose more appealing.

THEN you practice...practice...practice..to you are sick of it...then practice some more! Working on your posing will harden you up too.
As for your routine...I add all the mandatory's with some "custom" poses that look good on me...Add some music, something with a good cadence, and PRACTICE!
good luck

Thanks for all the replies. I've got something planned and have been practicing everynight. Got my music burned and am almost ready for Saturday. I'm a fair bit heavier than I thought I would be though. I signed up to compete as a middleweight but weightd in at like 196.6 lbs today so that's def not middleweight. lol.

These DVD's are great very detailed, also I posed along with the DVD and video tape myself and watch it you'll see what looks good and how to make minor adjustments to bring out more detail. This is a good start !
