10 PM snack when trying to lose a few lbs

I starve at night and I know this isn't good. Any suggestions on something to eat besides a protein shake, that is low on fat and has some decent protein in it. BTW, I hate anpb and cottage cheese. Please help.

Are you being facetious?

Most nuts are 600 cals per 100 grams, and a jar full is more than 100 grams. No you cannot eat an entire jar.

If ur starving, I'd go for 5 scrambed eggs (<400 cals). I don't subscribe to the fashionable view that nuts are filling calories - but if it works for you, have nuts & meat.

Whatever u do factor it is your macros

Great advise. I never thought of eggs at night for some reason. Whites only ?

Oh and as for cashews - well they're much higher carb than most nuts, so you need to factor that in too. And unless you have better willpower than me, they taste too good to be on any cutting diet

Up to you.

I have sometimes 5 whole eggs
- 31P; 25F; 357 cals OR
(up to) 10 whites, 2 whole
- 45P; 10F; 287 cals

It depends on your macros, and degree of hunger as to which I use. Its beneficial to include at least 2-3 whole eggs however daily in your diet (testosterone).

The possible benefit of option 1 is the greater fat concentration may mean the protein digests more slowly

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^agreed.

10whites, 2 whole eggs works for me sometimes. fat-free cottage cheese and anpb, also casein shake with anpb.

Cottage cheese is gross I agree. I don't mind low fat cheddar cheese, which is also carbless. Tastes good with PB. The problem I have with this meal is its so calorie dense and tasty that I would way more than my macros would allow. Hence, scrambled eggs - which tastes good with garlic and salt - is better for me.

If you can afford omega 3 eggs, go with them

Another food option is simply of course steak and green fiberous veggies (fat optional)- just mentioning it because its just what I ate (10pm here - and surprisingly tired).

Spinach is probably the best pre-bed veggie (and unlike say brocolli, it doesn't taste like shit and absorbs other flavours). It has far less net carbs than brocolli.

It's macros are amazing - 100g has 23 cals, 2.9P, 1.4 Net Carbs, 0.4 fat (of which 1/3 is omega 3), and "a good source of Niacin and Zinc, and a very good source of Dietary Fiber, Protein, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E (Alpha Tocopherol), Vitamin K, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Vitamin B6, Folate, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium, Copper and Manganese": Nutrition Facts and Analysis for Spinach, raw.

(an all spinach diet with sunlight at 2000 cals would hit every macro and micronutrient but B12)

LOL..no willpower hey Des?

who has willpower for cashews Access? I can eat 1/2 a kilo at a time no probs, and i particularly love it with extra salt and melted cheddar cheese. An extreme calorie bomb that is best avoided lol

The egg suggestion was great. I just had 5 soft boiled eggs, minus 4 yolks with a piece of wheat bread in a bold and cut it all up. It was really good. Great protein source at night and helped with the hunger big time. I am now going wait about an hour or two and have a couple scoops of whey before bed. Thanks for the great advise.

Please don't take this as demeaning, but this is not what I prescribed.

"couple scoops of whey" pre bed is pointless. Whey is digested rapidly. You said b4 you objected to pre-bed shakes? Well if your view on this has changed, I'd suggest a casein shake (per cobracock1979) as it has a more phased, delayed digestion period.

Also, if your cutting it is "stricter" to exclude starchy carbs such as wheat bread pre-bed (unless u have just exercise). If you find the scrambled eggs to bland - which you may - cook some onions/tomatoes which on a non-stick pan which taste surprisingly good (at least to me).

Eggs are just so versatile and excellent nutrient source. I love eggs any time of the day.
