Dextrose and glucose can come from different sources, but they are chemically the same monosaccharide: C6H12O6.
Smarties are almost pure dextrose. According to the ingredients label, they may also contain 'some maltodextrin', which is technically a complex carb by structure, but has a high glycemic index and acts like a simple sugar, so no problem.
...so, for 6-7 dollars, you got a 50-tab bottle of glucose wafers. At four grams per wafer, that's 6-7 dollars for 200 grams of sugar.
A 1-lb (454gm) package of Smarties will cost you less than 2 bucks, and contains about 400 grams of carbs. ...a much better deal, in my opinion.
...as far as 'dosage' goes, I'll take about 10-12 rolls of smarties post-workout, along with 40-50 grams of whey protein. This works great for me, but everyone's different, so you might need to adjust the numbers a bit for yourself.
...oh yeah, one more thing. If you go the smarties route, you're going to be chewing-up a lot of candy post-workout. While it tastes good, you may get a little bit of a sore throat for about a half hour. Also, brush your teeth afterwards... as this is a great recipe for cavities.
