Ever since I started exercising again.....*treadmill* etc. I have noticed a weird feeling in my knees...all the time. And the other day I squatted down to pick up something and my knee felt tight and kinda hurt.
What is up? I have never had knee problems and I don't run...just a brisk walk.
Is this normal and will go away or am I overdoing it. I'm walking like 2 mi a day, about 5 days a wk.

If you just started the walking /treadmill, might just be your joints getting used to it. I don't think 2 miles is overdoing it. I would make sure you have good tennis shoes and also warm up / cool down a little. My parents are in their 60's and walk 5 miles every day, so I'm sure you're just breaking into the exercise.

Cher I have the same problem .. And it is always my left knee.. I use to run 15 20 miles and not have the same problem.. however at 49 -- running is limited.. I bike and find the Elliptical to be a miracle !!!.

Are you stretching before? If it continues to bother you, I'd try the bikes or elliptical, both are easier on the knees. I have knee issues myself, I usually stick to the elliptical and it's just fine.

Sounds like Patellar-Femoral (sp?) -- I have that.... your kneecap doesn't "track" correctly over the joint & can cause pain or that "tight" feeling behind the kneecap.

There is a band you can buy -- velcro -- that you just wrap around your knee & it'll help your kneecap track properly.

Women have a tendency towards knee problems due to their hip placement & that their knees tend to bend in towards each other....

Hmmm, thanks for the replies. I always stretch before.
I may be getting some bands then.
I don't have an elliptical or bike, i do my exercising here at home so i can only workout on what i have already.
I think maybe if it doesnt stop i'll cut my cardio back a little to like 4 days a week or so.
Thanks!

That brace is called a "chopat", in case you're looking for it. Or you can just use some trainer's tape around your knee just below the knee cap, over the tendon. Be sure that's the problem though. If it is, you should work on strengthening vmo, often an imbalance of strong vastus lateralis is what pulls that patella over (as well as what Jen mentioned). Do you find it's sore after activity, but not during?

Make sure you are also taking Glucosamine/Chondritin/MSM/ and SAMe. Or some sort of joint supplement formula. I used to have that issue from running and it REALLY helps. Also if it gets to feeling sensitive you can always plop an icepack on your knees for 15 minutes following your treadmill work-out. It well help with the inflammation and make you feel better also.
