Simply because :
At this point , I have to ask myself , why don't black folks have a store here in thier own neighborhood? Is there something wrong with blacks selling OE to other blacks when Indians do it all day every day in thier own neighborhoods?? In these casese I dont' see any excuses. Black folks did not network and pool resources in an attempt to sell products to thier own people... Therefore they don't own businesses in thier hoods etc. Then sell things that they know they need and buy such as Afrocentric hair care products , lotions , clothing and what not. Crime unfortunately is a good reason for this. There is a belief in the black community that police and other emergency services don't cater to black in the way they cater to whites. In this case when LA riots broke out, there was a slow response from police , national guard etc , just like in hurricane katrina.
So to reply to bluepeter, yes , black do use excuses to succeed even in thier own neighborhood. But I would say that all people use excuses not to do something... I have to say though. Driving around Memphis , TN on I-55 I've seen some hoods I was quite proud of with black folks controlling business in thier own neighbood. This is about as close to "black supremacy' as I can think of.
Since black folks to a large degree DON'T own businesses in thier own neighborhoods , what is the chances of them owning businesses in commercial areas in large towns?? There are many success stories of blacks in entrepreneur magazine and what not. These are more middle class to upper class blacks who probably have more conservative views then liberal, but their efforts need to be pointed out as a vehicle to dispel alot of the stereotypes and biases white have for blacks.
Nothing worth having comes easy and I think we (black folks) need to be reminded of that.
I'm 1/4 Cherokee and tribal nation have began to open up casinos at reservations in states where this is allowed. I think this is wonderful and a show of how people will start business to promote te causes of thier own people. In a capitalist system I don't think once can be concerned about collecting funds from people for beer / gambling , etc
In the link hengst provided some quotes from Fredrick Douglass
The American people have always been anxious to know what they shall do with us... . I have had but one answer from the beginning. Do nothing with us! Your doing with us has already played the mischief with us. Do nothing with us! If the apples will not remain on the tree of their own strength, if they are worm-eaten at the core, if they are early ripe and disposed to fall, let them fall! ... And if the negro cannot stand on his own legs, let him fall also. All I ask is, give him a chance to stand on his own legs! Let him alone! ... [Y]our interference is doing him positive injury. [1]

Fredrick Douglass says very bluntly, "let them fall". I've been thinking about this ever since I read the words are pretty powerful. If a man is heading towards self destruction , unless he is able to be lead to water AND to drink the water, then this maybe failing is in his destiny!
The problem with these words is that the "interference" of the USA is been applied to every country on the planet. I have long since believed that the treatment of African Americans is analagous to American Foreign policy around the world. The word manipulation comes to mind, such as the use of force in OPEC countries in the middle east , whereas the lack of concern for Africans in Rowanda...
Anyway this is long enough

You know I find this interesting. I go into just about any city in America and you'll find a convience store that is run by Indians (people from India , not native americans / tribal nation) In these store they actually sell beer catered to poor black folk (OE , St Ides , Schlitz, King Cobra)bluepeter said:A lot of black people use racism as an excuse
