If you have the choice which leg curling machine would you choose for best hams exersize? The one that you seat and curl your legs underneath you or the one you lay face down and bring your feet to your butt. Any Pros and Cons for both types?

from those two, id have to say the lying down. the seated is to weird..it doesnt feel like your hitting your hams correctly.

but my fav ham machine is the standing single leg curl..that kills it.

lying is better

I also like lying down, but throw in the seated about every third workout... It seem to take the glutes out of the movement more for me.

i think one of the best exercises for hitting the hammies is to do them laying down with a dumbbell. When i was 18 i used to workout with a powerlifter that swore by them. lay down on a bench and while holding the dumbbell between your feet slowly lower the dumbbell and then raise. The good thing about doing these is that it works the entire ham and inner thigh area. Plus your forced to control the weight because if you come down to fast you can break your kneecaps.:D
started out using the 20lb db and now i can use the 60lb'er. Great exercise for adding size to the hammies.

i like SLD's. i used to do good mornings until i injured my back, so i do these and get a nice workout in my hams and glutes. another good glute excercise is a pull through. here's how ya do it:

go to a cable machine, like you do crossovers on. get the tricep rope and attach it. set the thing on the lowes starting position. basically near the floor. set your weight. now strattle over the rope and bring it through your legs. keep your arms straight and your back arched, kind of like a dead lift. take a step forward and basically pull using your glutes. to do so requires you to basically thrust your hips up. you can find this excercise by going to www.musclemedia.com and search for hip pull throughs. i'm sure they can better explain it. you might have to do high reps to get a burn but doing them after squatting or even SDL's can make them burn. they are great for strenghting and tightening up the glutes. it also helps your deadlift by getting you stronger on that last motion, so i've read.

SLDL or Romanian Dead lifts are the two best overall mass builders for the hamstrings. but to answer your question it is up to you. to stimulate hypertrophy and strength for the hamstring studies show the eccentric portion of the movement is the key. you want to raise the weight with a quick controlled movement pause and hold in the contracted position for a 2 count and lower the weight in a 4-6 count.

use which ever machine you can do this the best with.
