how about salami and hotdogs??
what type of food u eat before bed......higher in protein or higher in fat??
thanks.

Salami looks good....Be weary of Hot dogs and be sure to look at the nutritional info. Different brands may slip some carbs in there. I don't eat hot dogs just because of the stories I have heard about the processing and ingredients(probably all psychological). I go with sausages instead.

If your goal is some weight loss while mainting muscle mass, I would go with both protein AND fat before bed. You want the protein to process slowly throughtout the night and the fats allow that to happen. Unless you wake up every 4 hours to go eat, this is probably the way to go. Before bed, I usually take 1 - 2 scoops of whey and 1-2 tsbp of flax oil. How much depends on which day of CKD. On "fatty" days (like day 1 and 2) probably 2 tsp flax and 1 scoop whey. And then for the rest of the days I will even it out.

So exercising also puts u in ketosis to? I just thought not eating alot of carbs would put you in to ketosis. Bab thanks for the food ideas those are all items i would eat. I have lost about 3 to 4 pounds already, and before bed i probally eat more fat then protein.

Not eating a lot of carbs will put you in ketosis(it may take a while though, because ideally you want all glycogen stores depleted to enter ketosis) but on CKD we want to get in there ASAP and at the same time maintain our muscle mass. After carbing up, we will have the energy(full glycogen stores) for the first 2-3 days to work out hard, to keep our muscle mass. Take full advantage of that. By day 2 or 3, glycogen should be depleted assuming you work out hard and kept the fat intake up. Then you can even out to around 1:1 protein:fat and maintain ketosis. You defintely want to get some cardio in there everyday, in short seessions so as to not overtrain. Remember, your body is using fat for energy, so if you excercise, you can speed your results!

Also, dont be suprised if you GAIN 6-7 lbs after your carb up. It's all water/glycogen weight and by day 3-4 will be gone again. You should totally gauge you results by body fat loss and the way you looks/clothes fit. Congrats on your losses!

Keto sticks never worked for my. At first I tried them twice a day for 2 weeks. I was NEVER in keotsis, but my body showed signs. Believe me, you will know those signs(bad breath, body odor, some signs of weakness, smelly urine). I was drinking up to 13-15L of water in a full day. My friend told me that was probably why. One day I didn't drink as much water and it showed positive. If you budget allows and you are serious about mainting ketosis, a glucose meter would be a good investment.

Good luck!

Hey, let me tell you about my experience with those damn keto sticks. The first time I Carb-depleted, I went 6 days 0 carb! I did every body part 20 sets x 20 reps, to deplete, and those sticks never changed to purple, only slightly pink. I read that meant I was not depleted or in ketosis! BS!!!!!! That was 20 years ago. Now after years later I have told this story to some other people, and found out from a Doctor that a few just don't register on the Keto sticks.
I have talked to a few people that go to purple in just the 2nd day of no carbs, so I guess everyoone is a little different. A
