Whats a good weight for a 6'5'' frame?

current stats:
6'5'' - 245 (more soft than lean)

my goal is to be a lean 200lbs.. would 200 lbs be too skinny at 6'5''?

so i guess im asking.. if u were 6'5'', what would your goal weight be (cutting from 245)

it depends on what kind of look you want to go for..200 seems a bit skinny for a 6'5", but maybe cutting down to 200 then bulking up 20lbs then cutting a few, then bulking more would be a muscular, lean look..

at 6'5" you can look like a monster if you want..

i was 315 lbs 11 months so i have ALOT of left over fat in random places.. like huge fatty calves (cankles).. and man boobs.. im kinda hard on myself but i want to get rid of almost all fat and go for a lean model type look.. trust me im not gay if any1 weighed 315 like me, the would go for the model look too

Man we sound like twins, Im also batteling with what a good weight will be for me, I think I want to get to 220 then bulk. My LOOOONG term goal is to be 250+ with abs.

Check my sig for my progress

yeah 250 with abs would be amazing.. is it possible to cut just by lifting weights and little cardio? high entensity lifting i guess.. i wanna get cut and skinny at the same time

getting cut is done mainly in the kitchen, however, cardio and weights drastically speed up the process. Look into Bill Starr's 5x5 program for a good one for maintaining a lot of muscle mass while dieting, mainly because you will be lifting lower reps/higher weight so your body trys to maintain more muscle.

Also, depending on how much weight you want to lose in a given period of time, its helpful for you to know your daily maintenace for calories and adjust according to how much you will want to drop. ex: -500 calories/day from your maintenance will give you 1lb a week of loss. The more weight you lose per week, the more muscle you will be dropping with it. So if you're trying to maintain muscle, don't drop calories too low.

GL to you!

I am 6'5" and i am at 250 with 10-12% bf, meaning, i have abs. I am not HUGE but I am no freakin skinny ass model either. Try diet and cardio to shed the fat. then do a 5x5 workout to strengthen up your tendons for about 4 weeks, then go to a 8x3 sliding ratio workout to bulk up, make sure to adjust your diet to coincide with the work outs goals....

when shedding fat, eat often, small, clean meals/lean.. when doing 5x5 eat more protein. then when going to the 8x3 make a good mix of protein fats and carbs to maintian.

Don't want to derail but...

Only problem I have is I can't do squats or deadlifts, I would love to do a 5x5 but due to my ankle problem I can't balance properly on my left ankle since the range of motion is so messed up. So Im stuck doing semi-compound movements everyday, I usually lift 4-5 days a week and cardio 3-5, so I guess its just going to take some time.

Ankle pic *WARNING* its not for the weak of stomach

fuck that.. im thinkin 210'ish thats only 30 lbs less than i am now.. im slow as hell and i wanna increase speed because i play pick up football and basketball games all week

10lbs per inch, as a rule of thumb, so to look like an average height 200lb guy you'll need to weigh in the region of 260.

To look like a 230+ average height bodybuilder, you'd need to be in the 300's

woah...what did you do to your ankle?!!?

Car accident, any ideas on what a brother can do for 5x5 type results without squats/deadlifts? I'm going to post this in the training forum too and link to this thread since I don't want to keep derailing.

IMO 200 would be too skinny for you. But I'd need to see a pic, esp after what XJ said.. 205 @ 6'6 and chunky?! I CANNOT picture that.

I've seen 220 & 230 look awesome on 6'4 baseball player type physique.

Can you post a pic?

That was my second guess.

sfw thanks, Im just curious to see frame/weight pics. About the 6'5 200 though, Aside from the skinny lean basketball players I haven't seen lighter weight on a taller frame very much. Trying better to picture it. ;)

thanks so far i really appreciate it.. im still trying to get a hold of a camera or find out how to add pics from my razr (phone)

Explain? 10lbs per inch of ones heighth? Im not saying its stupid or anything, I just wanna see where I would be at...

exactly, per inch of height.

In fact the taller you are, the proportionally bigger your frame gets, so over 6'2" it'd be more like a 15lbs per inch hike. One of my pet peeves in the gym is seeing tall guys with big frames and no real muscle strutting around like they're something special.

its ALOT harder to get muscle to show if youre taller.. say my bicep is 2'' longer than yours. thats 2 inches of height advantage on your bicep u have over mine cuz mine is spread out

i read mens health (mag), and it says my body maintenance (calories) is over 3500+ calories, and i should eat 3200'ish per week to lose a pound a week.. doesnt this seem kinda high? ive been eating sub 1500 calories lately

I fell into this same trap sfwolves78, I was eating about 1500-1800 calories a day and struggling to lose weight. I gave up and decided to bulk some and started eating 3000 cals a day, and lo and behold Im still losing weight at the same rate as 1500-1800. Im sure its just not muscle like before. I feel stronger, better and healthier eating the proper amount of calories instead of starving myself.

I found it very easy to add calories through HUGE 3.5lb cans of mixed nuts and anpb. My ratio's before were absurd, like 70% protein 20% carbs 10% fats, Im still struggling to find more healthy carbs to fit in but at least Im more like 55/20/25 now. In short, don't drive yourself insane with your diet, switch it up or you're going to burn out.

So, if I was 5'7" what weight would I be at?

The missus recons about 100-115kg would have u lookin nice if u keep to 15% or under bodyfat. Im in agreance as im 6'4 at 103 kg at about 14% body fat. Every inch after about 6'2 makes a huge diference. Ive been down to 88kg at 9% and looked nice a slim but I tend 2 carry all my fat on my thighs and hips like a woman so once leaned out i at least looked proportionate. Picture a 6'4 bloke with an hourglass figure and hair to my waist to boot.
But even at my current stats I dont look big at all, that 103kg has a lot of area to spread over.

im 6 3 and im at 215 now with 12% Bf and im bulking now to bout 250 then gonna cut down to like 8% bf so for a 6 5 frame i would say like 250 with 8-10BF

im 6'1" d 205 right now and I feel tiny... :worried: soon to be back on though :) Id say a good 240ish is a healthy weight for someone at your height, depending on bf% and genetics of course...

You kidding bro? Not a flame, but get your priorities down....develop and good clean low calorie diet...good training regimini and cardio 5x a week in the am.....

ok ya i guess ur right.. thats just a fraction of the fat i used to have.. im 240 in that pic.. how many lbs. of fat do u guys think i can lose?

sfw first of all congrats on the weight loss, seriously.

What are you doing for weight training? I am very hesitant to tell you to 'cut THEN bulk' since Ive seen a few different things happen, one worry I have is the notion "Im afraid to get fat again" and not benefit from a bulk or start to panic when you lose sight of your abs, once you've actually had them, esp. when it's a 1st... people get very attached.

Have you ever done any HIIT cardio? Sprinting, plyowork, sparring, spin class, etc? Something OTHER then 30-40 minutes on an elliptical/treadmill/etc in a steady state? If you have not, I think your body may respond quite well to that, and you won't have to overdo the cardio which many people think is the answer.

I still want to know what you are doing for weights & if you have a program... resistance training is key here, as well as cardio and the given, clean diet.

bunny...now who would u be referring to?/ Hmmmm????????/
If I was referring to anyone specific I would have named him/her. I am not here to pick on people but help them. You included.

well i play full-court basketball 2-3 times a week (HIIT?).. im in the gym 6-7 days a week. i target different muscle groups every day (monday - biceps, back etc.).. so i do work out every primary muscle at least once or twice a week. i havent really done many ab work outs tho.. im stuck on a plateau right now.. thinking about picking up lipodrene again (epedra supplement)

Can you clarify a few things...
How is the diet specifically? Im wondering if you arent eating enough for your current activity level.

How many reps/set? I ask that because I want to assess your volume for one, as well as your strength (4 reps, 5, 6, 8, 10 etc)

Ya basketball can be a great workout. Full court no doubt .. again makes me ask about the caloric intake.

my diet is crystal clear (clean) but i definitely dont eat the 3,000+ calorie "maintenance" level.. my diet is very random but very clean for the most part.

Today for example:

12noon (wake up) 1 cup oatmeal + raisins

1pm-3pm lifting (biceps, back)

3:30pm post workout protein shake ('nu-blend' - 122 calories)

4 pm - 2 boiled chicken breasts (normal size? not sure how to put it)

6pm- 45mins. cardio all elyptical today (600 calories burned according to machine)

after cardio, i ate a few carrots and a pickle

currently - waiting for gf to get off work.. im going to eat a salad where ever we go for dinner (around 9:30pm).. ill try not to eat for the rest of the night. im a college student so my sleeping patterns are in a state of flux to say the least haha.. ill suffer from hunger til about 3-3:30am when i go to sleep

as far as lifting, i usually do 10 reps every set.. and add weight every set.. i may need to specify that more but im about to leave.. thanks bunny ur the best
