weightlifting belts

If your back hurts after push downs, you are not doing them right.....never sacrifice form for lower back pain. lower the weight and try to keep it strict.

on another kind of related note.

aparently:
Fred "dr squat" hatfield, forgot to tighten his belt up before he broke a world record, and was wearing the belt "loose".
but because he had worked so hard on abdominal an lower back strength he didnt even need a tight belt

Go to testosterone.net and do a search for "beltless." Read the three articles called "Back Strong and Beltless." If you still wear a belt for everything but 1-3 rep max outs you are an idiot.

bignate: IMO my ass. That's a fact.

I never use one either and wouldnt consider it unless I was doing a 1 rep max dead or squat.

I haven't used one at all since I started training

and I've done a few squat and deadlift maxes without em either, you will lift more with a belt, a good reason not to wear one - I like to use weights my body can handle by itself.

Good point. I don't understand why powerlifting has become more about the "gear" (bench shirts, knee wraps, etc) than about the people lifting the weight.

You can lift lots of weight and have a great body without using a single prop.
